An accident on the Burlington line fatally injures Que and seriously injures Mary when a southbound passenger train collides head on with an express. C. Uldrich is reported to have died instantly in the collision.
ORDERS TO MEET AT NELSON officials blame fog and wet rails for a collision as an express train waited and a passenger train failed to stop. No injuries reported but authorities investigate signaling and adherence to speed limits.
Reported rail wreck leaves several injured including fireman Librich and conductor Waidrick with back and shoulder injuries. Others like express messenger Quinland and engineer King suffer cuts bruises and back injuries. Passengers Mrs Schaffer and daughter Margaret plus Mrs Moots and others sustain various bruises sprains and minor injuries.
One man died and eighteen were injured when Burlington passenger train No 44 collided head on with express No 57 at Nelson Wis. Fireman C C Ul wich of Potosi Wis died. The wreck followed fog and possible brake or order confusion as the southbound passenger failed to stop for the waiting express. Crew included Engineer Michael H Dorsey and Conductor Charles Widrick on the passenger, and Engineer Clarence King with Conductor Flynn on the express. Both engines left the rails but cars stayed upright. the fireman died at the scene and other crew suffered injuries. Authorities noted recent Burlington wrecks on the route and a freight derailment at Ferryville. tracks were cleared for traffic.
Robert Hodgins, 34, homeless and broke, told Chicago police he killed a man in Altoona Wisconsin five years earlier after leaving a saloon with a farmer. Detectives contacted Altoona and Eau Claire to verify his tale, which lacks details such as victim name or judge. Hodgins said the victim was named George White in the trial.

John Pierce is held for coroner's inquiry into a fire that destroyed John Freed's home in Troy. Mrs. Freed, 43, and two year old daughter Margaret burned to death. A boarder says the blaze began from an exploding lamp. coroner reports indicate Mrs. Freed was strangled.
Infant daughter of Mr and Mrs James Fonzie of 607 La Crosse street died at home at 1 45 this morning from pneumonia after a week long illness. Funeral services will be held Monday at St Marys church with burial in the Catholic cemetery.

Warrants charging perjury were issued by U S Court Commissioner Joseph Stockwell for Victor L Palmer secretary and financial head of the Michigan Buggy Co and Frank B Lay vice president of the firm which went into bankruptcy last summer U S Marshal Robinson of Grand Rapids was sent to execute the arrests and Palmer and Lay were expected to appear to answer bond requests of 10000 each.
Early today robbers blew the Hartman Furniture company offices safe at 1311 Milwaukee Avenue and escaped with money and valuables estimated at $2,000. Chicago police investigated the $2,000 loss and the break in was reported at Hartman Furniture.
