Zeppelin L-2 Disaster Claims Dozens on Trial Flight
In Berlin on October 17 a Zeppelin L-2 exploded and burned during a trial flight at Johannisthal field. Twenty eight of the twenty nine aboard died including an admiralty commission. The craft, 500 feet long, plunged to earth as rescuers battled fire and crowd control. The commission members were Behnisch Greyer Neumann and Pietzker all killed. Lieutenant Commander Greyer led the expedition. The accident dominated the scene as officials prepared to take over the dirigible for the navy.
