Monsignor Edward J. Flanagan founder of Boys Town died in a Berlin army hospital after a heart attack at 61. He had been visiting German youth facilities and earlier toured Austria and Japan. Flanagan, who started Boys Town near Omaha in 1917, advocated fostering underprivileged youths and defending their reform. He received Rome’s attention and inspired the 1936 Hollywood film Boys Town.
