Roland Roark Rites on Sunday at Grover First Baptist
Funeral services for Private First Class Roland R. Roark 28 will be held Sunday at 4 PM at Grover First Baptist Church with Rev. Smoot Baker officiating. Roark died in Japan and is buried at Grover Cemetery. He enlisted in 1941 and was one of several Roark brothers serving in World War II. survivors include his mother Annie Wilson Roark and six brothers.

Funeral services for Luther Radongba Mitcham were held at St Matthews Lutheran Church with Rev W H Stender officiating. Interment followed in Mountain Rest Cemetery. Mitcham, a former Mauney Mills employee and U S Navy veteran, died after a heart attack at home. He had recently attended classes at Southeastern Peoples College in Charlotte and managed the American Legion building. Survivors include wife Ruth and daughter Linda Ellen, five brothers, one sister, and several nieces and nephews. McGill Arrests Auto Thief in Quick Pickup
Kings Mountain citizen McGill aided in the quick arrest of 17-year-old Robert Harold Ashe, an AWOL air force member from Murphy, for grand larceny of Clyde D. Hardin’s car at West Point Service Station Shelby road. Ashe was detained around 10:20 a.m. by Mr. McGill and turned over to Kings Mountain police. The theft was aided by a nearly empty gas tank observed as the suspect gassed up. Three Rutherfordton youths were previously picked up near the trail underpass but not linked to this crime.
