Commissioners Vote $11,500 Street Repairs
The city board on Tuesday night approved creating a five man citizens planning board to work with the mayor and city engineer on city improvements including zoning plans and bond issues. The board also voted to resurface 62,080 square yards of streets at an estimated cost of 11,500 dollars and to extend a welcome to King and Engineer Brandon to prepare further plans.

Dettmar Home Damaged By Fire At West King Street
The home of Laney C. Dettmar at 607 West King Street suffered extensive damage from a fire caused by an oil stove explosion at about 12 30 p m on Wednesday. Dettmar escaped uninjured with singed hair and eyebrows. Estimated loss to home furnishings is 3000 dollars, half the home value, with smoke and water damage requiring redecorating. Insurance partially covers the loss. The fire was confined mainly to the rear of the house and was the week's only blaze, according to Fire Chief King.
