City sells 916 automobile tags and more local notices

City Clerk S A Crouse announced the sale of 916 city automobile tags. Dixon Presbyterian church hosts a week of services led by Rev I M Ellis of Gastonia. First Wesleyan church receives a $7000 education building permit at City Hall, while I B Osborne gets a $6000 five room dwelling permit on West Mountain. Robert Wright appointed assistant operator at the city water plant as demand rises.

Legion to Sponsor Grover Play Here

Otis D. Green Post 195 of the American Legion sponsors a three act comedy Maid To Order staged by Grover high school players in Central Auditorium next Friday at 8 00 pm. Miss Dorothy McCraw directs a Grover high cast. the show drew a packed crowd in Grover last Saturday with many turned away. Admission 95 cents for school children and 50 cents for adults.

Brick Laying Course For Negro Vets Set

B N Barnes superintendent of city schools announced a brick laying vocational course for veterans at Davidson Colored school starting Monday afternoon. Instructor Claude Morgan Jr with Principal J A Olson supervising. About 15 20 veterans expressed interest. Course approved by state department of education in cooperation with Veterans Administration. Colored veterans contact Principal Gibson to enroll.

District Music Contest Sets Weekend Events

Kings Mountain high school prepares for district music contests in Charlotte this weekend with the girls glee club, soloists, and a Class C band. Local solo winners Jeneane Hallman Pauline Mauney Evelyn Cline and Billy Gene Amos earn spots to represent the school.

Palm Sunday Confirmation Class at St Matthew’s Lutheran

On March 21 Palm Sunday the rite of confirmation will be administered to a class of youths who have attended St Matthew's Lutheran Church catechetical class for two years. The service publically confesses faith in Christ and promises service to Him. Members: Ruth Jeannette Brooks, William Charles Huffsticker, Fred William Kiser, James Ronald Layton.

Kings Mountain merchants report a busy week stocking Easter wardrobes with apparel, shoes, and accessories. With weather unsettled and Easter ten days away, retailers expect a stronger weekend as more new Easter wear arrives, promising better selections than since the World War II era.

Yearbook editor chosen at College election

Emelyn Gillespie, daughter of Mr and Mrs ston Salem, was chosen editor in chief of the College yearbook Sight and Insights for next year. Miss Gillespie, a junior, is assistant editor and serves as president of the Spanish Club and member of the Choral Ensemble. She also writes for the student newspaper and has three years in the Spanish Club.

Kings Mountain Red Cross drive nears quota

Contributions totaled 2381.28 on Thursday morning as Kings Mountain Red Cross efforts push toward a 5412 goal. G Carracott urged division leaders to finish canvassing and reports, noting 69 percent of the quota will stay locally to fund home service work.

Bobbitt To Speak On WLTC Radio Broadcast

Rev C B Bobbitt pastor of Donia Baptist church starts a twice weekly religious program on WLTC Gastonia. Each Wednesday and Friday from 5 15 to 5 30 p m he will present a gospel message from the station at 1370 on the dial. He invites all friends to listen as the broadcasts aim to spread the gospel.

Lions Farmers Banquet Set For Thursday Evening

The Kings Mountain Lions Club will host its annual Farmers Night banquet Thursday at 6 30 P M in the high school cafeteria, with C N Goerch of The State newspaper delivering the address. Holland Dixon urged Lions to notify invited farmers or the secretary if guests cannot attend to ensure proper reservations, as several special guests from Gaston and Cleveland agriculture schools are invited.

Rubinoff to Play Shelby High Auditorium Concerts

Internationally famed violinist Dave Rubinoff will perform at Shelby high school auditorium in two shows Friday a student matinee at 3 p.m. and an 8 p.m. evening concert. Sponsorship by the Shelby Junior Chamber of Commerce expects a large crowd. Tickets available at local shops and newspapers.

Special ARP Easter Services Begin Tuesday Night

Special Easter week services start Tuesday evening at Boyce Memorial ARP Church with Rev. J. G. Winkler delivering the message. Each night through Friday features a different ARP minister with 7:30 start Tuesday and Wednesday, and later starts Thursday and Friday to avoid conflicts. Easter morning service led by Rev. J. H. Check Flashes Return, Merchants Courting Risky Payments

A local issue reports a revival of check flashing where a check drawn on First National Bank payable to Kitty M. Jones with an endorsement on the back is signed by J. B. King. Neither party is known to the bank and such checks are returned for payment to the merchants who arranged the scheme.

Glee Bridges Not To Seek Re Election In County Race

Kings Mountain industrialist W. K. Mauney announced Thursday he will seek the county commissioner post in the May Democratic primary. Glee A. Bridges said he will not run for reelection after eight years on the board. Mauney, a Lions Club president and JC of Kings Mountain director, co owns Mauney Hosiery and holds multiple local business roles. Band Benefit Dance Friday At Kings Mountain High

The Woodmen of the World sponsor a square dance at Kings Mountain High School gym Friday at 8 pm to raise funds for the high school band. Hamrick's String Band plays and Ray Smith calls. Admission is 60 cents per person. WOW officials expect a large crowd and emphasize entertainment plus band support.
