Local Chamber Nominating Committee Formed at Trout Club Supper

Members of the Ger of Commerce held a supper meeting at the Trout Club Tuesday night. President Jacob Cooper appointed a nominating committee with Hoyle McDaniel as chairman and Vernon Crosby C. T. Carpenter Jr. W. K. Mauney Jr. and Martin Harmon as members. Crosby welcomed new member B S Peeler Jr. Seven guests attended as the group adjourned to a brief business session followed by group singing led by W B Logan Ned McGill and C F Thomasson.

Tax Help At City Hall This Friday For Kings Mountain

A State Department of Revenue rep will assist Kings Mountain area residents in filing 2047 state income tax returns at City Hall Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The filing deadline is March 15. Also, Markham, brother of Mrs. Tolly Shuford, was named director of publicity and research for the Young Democratic Clubs of America. he has been a Charlotte News editorial writer.

Kings Mountain Kiwanis marked its eighth anniversary with J. J. Tarlton a past lieutenant governor set to address the Thursday night meeting at the Woman's Club 486:30.

Kings Mountain Merchants association held its first meeting of the year Monday night with large attendance. Secretary Ned A Meant Gill reported an active past year and directors authorized President Joe Lee Woodward to appoint standing committees for association activities and events.

Day Succeeds Peeler At Phenix

John A. Staples of Gastonia Burlington Mills announces Jack Day as the new superintendent of the Phenix plant. Day, a Clemson College 1934 BS in Textile Engineering graduate, served as major in the Fifth Armored division with five battle stars and Bronze Star. He joined Burlington Mills in 1946 and works with Spinning Division Manager A. L. Burnett in Greensboro. Peeler had been superintendent since January 1946 and was active in civic affairs in Kings Mountain.

Hal Ward’s Mother Dies in Kings Mountain

Mrs. Ward, 25, of Gent Alpine, mother of Hal Ward, Kings Mountain, died suddenly Wednesday night from a heart ailment. Funeral arrangements had not been made at press time Thursday.
