Country Club Plans Informal Opening This Friday

The Kings Mountain Country Club announces an informal opening this Friday from 5 to 9 p m with invited out of town officials and members families. Mrs M A Ware leads arrangements aided by many wives of club men as Gastonia musician Bob Barkley performs on a miniature organ. The club traces its beginnings to a 1940 meeting of professionals and business leaders at Plank Motors and tentatively eyed sites before settling on West King Street with a 10 year lease and option to buy.

Mauze To Conduct Revival Meeting at First Pres Winston

Rev George Mauze D D pastor of First Presbyterian church of Winston Salem will conduct an evangelistic meeting at the same church from Sunday June 22 through Friday June 27. Services will be held daily at 8 00 PM. Mauze, a native of Virginia and a graduate of Davidson College and Union Theological Seminary of Richmond VA, is recognized as a leading preacher.

Former Citizen Killed by 13-Year-Old Son in Spencer Mountain

Funeral arrangements are underway for Cora May Weaver 47 of Spencer Mountain a former citizen of Kings Mountain. She was shot twice by her son who reportedly said I flew mad and I show her during an early Wednesday incident at her home. Weaver a former loom fixer and pastor at Pearl Baptist church Iron Station left behind a husband mother and five brothers and sisters. The 13 year old son is held without bond in Gaston County jail pending juvenile court proceedings. Witnesses described the mother shouting Johnny you ve shot me as she died. Court hearings were planned but not yet scheduled.

Bowling Center Opens in Arcadia Neighborhood

Arcadia Bowling Center, near Battleground Avenue by Plank Motor, opens Friday under Haywood E Lynch. Five maple and oak lanes handle duckpins and tenpins, with Curtis H Houser managing. A renovated building houses a snack bar, air cooling system, and seating for bowlers and spectators.

City Recorder Court Clears Light Session On Drunken Driving Fines

Twenty seven cases heard before Judge C. C. O'Farrell in City Recorder's Court. Lanier of Spietby received a suspended sentence for driving drunk with $50 costs. Prince and Brown faced fines on speeding and non tax palanqour charges. Other defendants included Gibson for ceding, Purkey for gambling, and Stewart and Roberts in assault cases. penalties ranged from fines to two months suspended sentences.

Kings Mountain Junior Chamber Meets at Bridges Airport

The secular meeting of the Kings Mountain Junior Chamber of Commerce was held at Bridges Airport Tuesday night with a ham and egg supper served by the Gleaners at First Baptist church. Bob Abernethy reported on the National convention in Long Beach California and Minnethy described an air trip and convention sessions. Vernon Crosby welcomed Pete Barkley as a new member and Jacob Cooper, presiding, welcomed W. S. Fulton Jr back into the organization after a year’s absence.
