Kiwanis Thursday Meeting to Feature Hearing Device

At 7 PM Thursday the Kiwanis club meets at the Woman's club to install officers with Bob Cooke of Shelby conducting. Dr. Herrin Gastonia physician will demonstrate the Maico hearing device. Program set by committee on underprivileged children. Sunday union service at 8 PM at Boyce Memorial ARP with Rev. W H Stender of St Matthew's Lutheran Church.

Mrs Pinkney Beatty of Charel Street and Senepialh won first prize in the state competition announced by Mrs Dickie Tate president. The winning pastel earned a $5.00 prize. The student attends an art school and produced the entry.

The Kings Mountain Lions club run semi pro baseball tourney opens Monday at City Stadium with eight teams, including Cora Mill of Gaston Textile league drawing Norwood Red Birds. Forest City Owls vs Belmont Cardinals and Lincolnton Red Sox vs Lance Packers follow, with eliminations shaping a Wednesday semifinal and next week’s title game. Miss Lula Mae Teague named educational secretary and music director at First Baptist Church, beginning July 1, announced by Rev. L. C. Pinnix. She is the daughter of Rev. J. L. Teague of Hickory, an alumna of Mars Hill and Limestone colleges, and previously served at First Baptist Burlington.

William J Crawford Dies. Funeral Held In Kings Mountain

Funeral services for 79 year old William Joseph Crawford prominent retired grocer were held Saturday morning at Boyce Memorial ARP church with Tenerne officiating. Interment followed in Mountain Rest cemetery. Crawford native of Bethany in York County moved to Kings Mountain in 1900 and retired from business three years ago. Survived by wife Vinne Littlejohn three children sister and two brothers and two grandchildren. Pallbearers were church officers and elders with honorary pallbearers named.
