Severe Cold and Snow Slowed Early English Farming Traditions
An old chronicle recalls an 1385 cold snap when ground froze from mid January to early spring, halting field work and spiking prices. A 1910 snow from February 4 to 8 killed many while thawing led the Thames to Westminster Hall. Alfalfa and ladino clover boosted hay on small farms, and milk yield rose on dairy cows. Veterans in hazardous civilian jobs retain full National Service Life Insurance.
