Christmas services at Grace Methodist Church announced

Grace Methodist Church will observe Christmas with a sunrise service at 6 a.m. on Christmas Day announced by pastor Rev G W Fink. The Youth Fellowship will present a play They Found a Child on Christmas evening at 7 p.m.

City issues 150 auto tags for 1949

City clerk S A Crouse announced 150 auto license tags for 1949 were issued Tuesday morning. The $1 tags are required for all cars owned by motorists within city limits. Members of the Luther Leagues of St. Matthew's Lutheran church will carol after Christmas Eve service, gathering in the church recreation room immediately following the service.

Lutheran Church Christmas Eve Service at St Matthew's

St Matthew's Lutheran Church will hold a Christmas Eve service at 11 p.m. featuring a poinsettia adorned chancel, a garlanded evergreen backdrop with a Moravian Star, and three meditations on yearning, giving light, and Jesus as the light of the world. The Senior choir directed by Mrs J E Herndon will perform, and attendees will receive candles to sing Silent Night. Public invited.

X-Ray Fund Gifts 2149 in Kings Mountain drive campaign

Kings Mountain donors totaling 2149 were announced by Grady Howard treasurer to support the Jaycee X-Ray fund. The local campaign for Shelby and Kings Mountain needs 1251 more to complete the drive after machine purchase came under budget. Contributors include Mauney Mills 134, Narrow Fabrics 73, Craftspun 25, Dellinger's Jewel Shop 5, A&P 3, and Nessler Milletis 1000 among others.

Mauneys Bay Williams Home Sale Tops Local Realty

One of the region’s largest recent residential deals closed last week as Mr. and Mrs. George H Mauney bought the North Piedmont Avenue home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Williams. The six and one tenth acre property includes a ten room house, several outbuildings, and a servant’s apartment. Haywood E. Lynch of Kings Mountain brokered the deal.

Wright and Rhea Will Start 10-Unit Negro Housing Block

Fred J. Wright Jr. and J Elmer Rhea of Kings Mountain bought about ten acres from J Byron Keeter adjoining Davidson school to build ten 4 room 1 bath concrete block houses for Negro occupancy. Construction on the first 10 units to begin January 1.

Judge Harrill Tried Twelve Cases Monday

City Recorder's court held at City Hall on Monday afternoon before Judge E A Harrill. Twelve cases were tried in the war session. Eight defendants convicted of public drunkenness. C F Long of Gastonia jailed 90 days for drunken driving. Buck James Heavener fined 150 dollars and costs for drunken driving hit and run and driving without license. Albert Eugene Costner of Gastonia fined 10 dollars and costs for speeding. Eddie Price of Shelby fined 50 dollars and costs for speeding and carrying a concealed weapon. Next term set for December 28 at 2 p m.

The Herald announces its next issue will publish Friday December 31 as the annual Christmas edition. No edition on Friday due to midweek advance, and the paper will close from noon Wednesday to noon Monday. Local merchants convey Christmas wishes and advertise last minute shopping.

Girl Scout Fund Reaches $700 in WV Campaign

WV W Tolleson, chairman of the Annual Girl Scout Forta drive, reported this week that contributions totaled 700, toward a city quota of 1,000. He urged remaining businesses to donate quickly to close the drive and expressed appreciation to workers and contributors for supporting the program.

Mars Hill College Glee Club Names Jean McClain Second Alto

Jean McClain of Kings Mountain, daughter of Mr and Mrs E McClain, is listed in the second alto section of Mars Hill College glee club for 1948 49. The 85 voice group sings locally, rolo programs, before the State Baptist convention in Charlotte, and helped present The Messiah in Asheville. The director Elizabeth Souther says two local concerts, a brief tour, and radio programs are planned for spring.

Jaycees Dance At High School Gym Tuesday Night

The Jaycee Charity Ball, a season highlight, will be held at Kings Mountain High School gym Tuesday December 28 featuring Frank Love and his orchestra. Tickets are $1.20 each tax included, dress optional, with expected large crowds from Kings Mountain and nearby towns. The event is sponsored by the Jaycees and tickets are sold by members.
