Hickory Juniors and Kings Mountain clash to close the 1950 season Saturday at 7 45 p m at City Stadium in Hickory with final practice Friday afternoon. Kings Mountain edged Hickory 5 4 in their July meeting behind Fred Kiser four hits. Herndon Bridges Join Air Force as Officers

James E Herndon Jr and Neigon Bridges enlisted with the Air Force on Thursday. They planned to depart for Kelly Field in San Antonio Texas for officer training with aims to gain commission. Herndon is a Davidson College graduate and had done graduate work at the University of North Carolina. Bridges has been employed at a local concern and is pursuing officer training.

Barnes Announces City Schools Faculty List 1950 51

City schools superintendent B N Barnes released the 1950 51 faculty list opening September 5 with eight changes from last year and vacancies in four elementary posts and a public school music position. Names include Mrs Catherine Fisher and Miss Doris Stout among new teachers and several principals and grade teachers across Kings Mountain Rutherfordton Lincolnton and surrounding districts. The board will fill remaining vacancies and decide on the music position for the forthcoming term.

Sink Named B Squad Coach at Kings Mountain High

Jack Sink, 21, former Lenoir Rhyne College football guard and baserunner, joins Kings Mountain High as assistant coach for the B team and eighth grade teacher. He hails from Thomasville, NC, recently played semi pro baseball in North Carolina and was part of the Lenoir Rhyne baseball and All Star teams. Coach Barnes announced the appointment. practice starts next Tuesday at 10.

Bell Business Office To Close Saturdays

High Grid Drills Start Tuesday

Philbeck Convicted On Knifing County

Gus Philbeck a 29 year old Cherokee textile worker was convicted on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly cutting Paul Seown with a knife last Saturday. He was ordered to post bond and make weekly payments toward his fine and court costs.

No Commitment Made Concerning Dial Service

Barnes, president of the Junior Chamber of Commerce, reports a petition opposing local telephone rate increases until service improves. About 43 people signed. Kiwanis members circulated it. Petition to NC Utilities Commission and Southern Bell cites dial systems and wish for better service before any rise. A June 24 testimony by the company prompted a future commission hearing open to opposing testimony.

Funeral Held For Leone Ware

Funeral rites for Leone Ware 63 well known King Mountain area resident were held Monday at El Bethel Methodist church with interment in the church cemetery. Ware died Saturday noon after a heart attack while shopping at Crawford's Market. He was a native of Cleveland County and member of Bethlehem Baptist church. Missing in Action Soldier Huffstickler Confirmed

A letter from the War Department confirms Pvt Rutua G Huffstickler is missing in action in Korea. Parents Mr and Mrs Stacy Huffstickler say they last heard from him May 7 while he served with a Calvary unit after previously being in anti aircraft service. His father served over a decade in the Army including time in China and Japan.

Cleveland County unit seeks local volunteers for duty at station hospital

Dr Jones says such duty is desirable and the unit aims to fill with Cleveland County men and women to make it more desirable. The unit expects to cave within the next month.
