James E Herndon Jr and Neigon Bridges enlisted with the Air Force on Thursday. They planned to depart for Kelly Field in San Antonio Texas for officer training with aims to gain commission. Herndon is a Davidson College graduate and had done graduate work at the University of North Carolina. Bridges has been employed at a local concern and is pursuing officer training.

Funeral rites for Leone Ware 63 well known King Mountain area resident were held Monday at El Bethel Methodist church with interment in the church cemetery. Ware died Saturday noon after a heart attack while shopping at Crawford's Market. He was a native of Cleveland County and member of Bethlehem Baptist church. A letter from the War Department confirms Pvt Rutua G Huffstickler is missing in action in Korea. Parents Mr and Mrs Stacy Huffstickler say they last heard from him May 7 while he served with a Calvary unit after previously being in anti aircraft service. His father served over a decade in the Army including time in China and Japan.
