Young couple blocked from marriage over age and parents’ opposition

Russell Strong a 22 year old of Mellott Indiana sought a marriage license for Edith Benjamin 18 ½ of Newtown Indiana. Authorities warned Danville officials and the pair were later seized in Urbana Illinois while attempting to obtain a license. Edith Benjamin’s father R L Benjamin pursued the case to Champaign County urging action while considering prosecution. Edith is described as venturesome with auburn hair in a blue suit and rain coat.

Fountain County Court Adjourning for Vacation

The Fountain county circuit court will adjourn next Saturday for a week long vacation. The November term starts November 18 with a heavy docket. Trials include Gilbert Crumley charged with murdering his wife, the Veedersburg blackmailing case, and Margaret Faye Foxworthy charged with bigamy. Numerous criminal civil and divorce cases are slated for disposition.

Public Sale Announced by D. W. Dove This Saturday

D. W. Dove will conduct a public sale on Saturday November 16. He plans to move south for the winter and seek a good farm. A daughter was born to John C. Miller and wife on November 7. Mrs. Miller is the daughter of William Hutts west of Yeddo. Hides can be sold to Robinson and Reath.

Margaret Linthicam Jackson born May 29 1836 in Randolph County North Carolina died October 21 1912 at her home near Harrodsburg Indiana aged 76 years 4 months 22 days She was married to Alexander Jackson in 1854 and had nine children eight sons and one daughter all living except a son who died in infancy The family moved to Indiana in 1860 Funeral services were held at Linthicum Methodist Church conducted by Rev Barr six sons served as pallbearers Interment in nearby cemetery

Death in Diphtheria Strikes Kellar Family

Helen Kellar died Saturday evening from diphtheria, following a brief illness. The Kellar family neighbors the Benefele family whose six year old died of diphtheria a week earlier. The Boggs school may close for a week as precautions are taken to prevent an epidemic. Funeral and burial are set for Monday morning at the Lutheran cemetery east of Wallace.

Bull Moose advocate speaks to Crawfordsville crowd

Harry D. Mitchael of Crawfordsville addressed a Monday night gathering in support of the Bull Moose cause with clear points and a strong delivery. The event was introduced by A. H. Lindley and drew a good sized audience. A letter from W. E. Gray of Elizabeth Mississippi praise The Star and asks for continued subscription. Coal prices are listed by S. B. Coal Co. and local cattle and lamb shipments to Indianapolis and Chicago are noted. The Variety advertises new silverware and steak meals at Robinson Reath's and promotes Art Gum eraser products.

Great Democratic Landslide Across County and State

Election results show overwhelming Democratic wins at county and state levels and nationally. Wilson carries president with historic margin. Roosevelt falls short of Taft in a close race. Marshall elected vice president. Local offices also go Democratic with large margins in Fountain County. Villages report party strength from courthouse to judges and prosecutors.

Mort Crane Caught Prowling Saloon for Whiskey

Covington officer Frank Timmons surprised Mort Crane in the McMahon saloon rear with a full case of O W O whiskey and a pocket bottle. A rear-door key, missing from the proprietor, unlocked Crane’s access. Crane admits drinking and claim of intoxication. arraignment pending on charges. Also noted are local notices and ads including sales items and social notices.

Masquerade Night Delights Kingman High School

Kingman High School held its annual masquerade last Friday with a large crowd and orderly conduct. Miss Helma Black aged six won first prize in the costume contest revealed as the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Black. Abe Martin acted by Myron Pithead finished second. Agnes Sturm won the popular vote for a china dish. Receipts approached $40 to fund the school library, supported by performances from the school orchestra directed by Miss Audrey McCord.

M. E. Church Sunday Services and Evening Sermons

Tangier High School observed Arbor Day with a detailed program by grades and seniors. Topics covered tree care forests and native Indiana trees with student recitations songs and notes on school grounds.
