Better Farming Association Meets to Organize Township Unit

Saturday afternoon June 7 trustees call meeting at Kingman school building to form a township association for better farming. County officers will be elected including a county director to promote farming with schools and Purdue University county agent will advise on fruit disease pests soil rotation and dairy farming. Public spirited men urged to attend.

Kingman Girl Marries Ohio Man

Miss Allie Black of Kingman and Mr. Frank Washburn of Toledo married in Logansport on Wednesday. The bride, daughter of Mrs. Sarah Black, is active in church and social life. the groom works as a fireman on a Wabash train between Toledo and Fort Wayne. They plan a brief honeymoon before settling in Toledo.

C and E I Receivers Appointed Over Frisco Lines

Agent R B Myers reports that the C and E I lines of the Frisco system are in receivership following a complaint by the Railway Steel Spring Co. Officials who led the road remain as receivers and executors of the sale. The cause of the receivership is not fully known and the outcome will unfold with time. Return of Nora Steele to Pine Village

Miss Nora Steele arrived in Pine Village Monday to spend the week with Mrs. Geo. Steele who recently underwent an operation in a Lafayette hospital. Mrs. Geo. Steele formerly was Mrs. Emma Philipps of the area. A. J. Johnson traveled to Indianapolis Saturday to aid his brother L. H. Johnson in real estate matters. Wm. Renick attended to business interests in Yeddo Saturday.

A shower for Miss Allie Black was hosted by Mrs. H. H. Glascock Mrs J. B. Rowlett Miss Betha Myer and Miss Bertha Shoaf at Miss Shoaf s home last Friday night About fifty guests attended and gave small gifts including a cups and saucers bread and butter plates silverware and embroidered towels The evening featured social games music and a puzzle style announcement revealing the wedding date and groom Mr Frank Washburn Late in the evening lunch eon of chicken sandwiches and punch was served The event was described as pleasant and memorable by attendees

Towell Family Visit Highlights Local Ties and Career News

Prof H. M. Towell and his wife Doris of Danville Ind visited with his parents Mr and Mrs Joe Towell and sister Mrs H M Brown. Towell, a Kingman native, taught at Central Normal College for three years and directs ME Sunday school singing. Mrs Towell led music in Kingman schools and now teaches at CNC. They plan a modern bungalow this summer.

Aaron Walton Dies After Illness Near Yeddo

Aaron Walton longtime resident of Yeddo dies at his son Allie Walton's home in Stone Bluff after a period of failing health. He was well known for his involvement with the Old Settlers meeting near Yeddo. Funeral services were held Sunday.

Anniversary of Veedersburg church dedication noted

The First Christian church in Veedersburg marks its third anniversary of the new building with morning Bible School program, special orchestra and choir numbers, and a sermon. Afternoon prom program and evening music and speeches follow a basket dinner in the basement. Neighboring church members are invited.

The Fountain Warren Medical Society will hold its annual meeting in Kingman on Thursday June 6. Dr Rufus Eastman and Dr B K Bonn of Indianapolis will present papers. The session starts at 10 30 AM with about thirty five members expected.

Beginning June 1 rural carriers will weigh all mail for thirty days and tally postage. The annual count measures business at the Kingman post office and results in a reporting estimate.

Electric strike breaker injured by 500 volt line near Kingman

O A Philpot formerly of Kingman now living near Oroville was seriously injured in San Francisco while working as a strike breaker for Pacific Gas and Electric Co. He touched 500 volts while climbing a pole and fell, saved by a broken telephone wire. He is at German Hospital in critical condition. He is the sole son of E M and Mrs Philpot.

Friends Church Announces Regular Services Next Sabbath

The Friends Church invites all to attend Sabbath school at 9 30 A M led by Sarah Lindley and worship at 11 A M with pastor Martilia Cox expected to be present. The church thanks supporters for recent building repairs and invites worshipers.

Lizzie Goddard obituary and Tangier memorial services

Mrs. Lizzie Goddard aged 48 or so died May 19 1913 at the home of her daughter near Howard after years of illness. Born May 14 1865 in Parke County Indiana she outlived a tough early life with parents Cyrus Beech and Emma Mason. Survived by husband Leander G Goddard one son Hershal one daughter two stepdaughters two sisters and a half-brother. Funeral at Friends church Tangier with Rev McHargue the service followed by burial in nearby cemetery. Memorial service held at Tangier church with Howard singers and local youths performances.

Workmen Begin Basement Work on Ira Duncan’s Farmhouse

Workmen have started basement construction on Ira Duncan’s new house on his 33 acre western town farm. Duncan visited Doner Monday to oversee his hardware store. Rev Harland Marvey of Yeddo will preach at the U B church next Sunday at 11 o’clock in place of Rev Higinbotham. Mrs C B Philpott of Coyington visits relatives here this week.
