Decoration Day Observed with Largest Kingman Crowd

Memorial Day observance at Harveysburg cemetery drew Kingman residents and an unusually large crowd. The Kingman band played as twelve girls placed wreaths, veterans marched to Dalbey’s At Rest, and Rev. R. V. Johnson gave the address in the grove west of the cemetery. O. V. Spencer led the program with praise for helpers. next year Leeman Wilkins leads the exercises.

Hogs Get on a Toot at Tom Woody’s Farm

A humorous rural item reports Tom Woody’s hogs becoming drunk on spilled grape juice from spoiled fruit stored in a hotel basement. The hogs staggered and later sobered, returning to normal feeding as Woody worried about losses but avoided damage.

Miss Ruby Philpot daughter of Mr and Mrs E M Philpot a prominent farmer of Freedom vicinity northeast of here married Ora E Bever on Thursday June 5 in Billings Montana. They plan to live near Garland Wyoming after June 9 as Bever has purchased a farm there. Both are well known and highly esteemed by friends in their home area.

Perrysville’s Professor Valentine, former superintendent, traveled to Indianapolis for the state teachers examination and earned a United States life license based on his results. He has been retained to supervise Perrysville schools for another year.

Wm Crum purchased the Robi Ewing property yesterday for 500 dollars. He plans repairs and likely to move in soon. Ewing will relocate to Clinton early next week to take steady work at plastering. Ed Youngblood was visiting from Waveland yesterday.

Veedersburg Boy Killed In Freight Train Wreck

A Clover Leaf through freight wreck near Stevens station near Veedersburg killed Cyril Glover 16 and seriously injured four other youths from prominent local families. The accident followed a joy ride of about ten boys riding in empty box cars as wheels derailed and timbers toppled, with Glover’s body found badly mutilated. Funeral held at United Brothers church in Veedersburg with burial at Rockfield cemetery.

Obituary of Charles Dillon of Ridgefarm area

Charles Dillon born September 18 1854 near Ridgefarm Illinois died May 30 1913 at age 58 with his wife Almaretta Embree surviving. He leaves three sons Henderson Rufus and Logan Dillon three grandchildren four sisters and one brother. Funeral services were held at Yankee Point with Rev Campbell officiating and burial nearby.

Crumley Reported Employed at Twine Factory

Sheriff Van Matin says Gilbert Crumley, convicted of his wife’s murder, is working in a binder twine factory after returning from Michigan City prison. He has not left the walls since placement and is described as a model prisoner and in improving health.

Light wreck delays southbound C E I train near Rob Roy

The southbound passenger on the C E I was delayed last evening due to a light wreck near Rob Roy where two freight cars derailed. No damage is reported. C P Miller and wife of Cayuga passed through Sunday en route to Grange Corner to visit his ailing father. C M Spencer and wife returned Thursday from a two week visit with J W Black and family of Sikeston Mo.

Second Operation at Culver Hospital

Donald DeVerter underwent a second operation at Culver hospital in Crawfordsville on Wednesday of last week. The appendix was removed and a mild bowel obstruction found along with other complications. The operation was successful and he is expected to recover soon. He has suffered for nearly a year and friends joyfully note his convalescence.

Band Concerts Set for Kingman Streets This Summer

Kingman announces a summer series of street band concerts starting tomorrow night at 8 o clock. The all experienced ensemble is in good condition and invites Kingman residents to attend for an evening of recreation. Band members are urged to assemble tomorrow evening ready to begin promptly to help decide whether the concerts will continue through the season.

A reunion for Bloomingdale Academy alumni and teachers will be held on Thursday June 12 with a noon dinner at fifty cents a plate. Obituary of Alex C Starns

Alex C Starns died at age 45 after a life marked by faith and family. He married Amanda Miller in 1893 and left behind wife, three children Oren Lena and Gloria, an aged set of parents, one brother and two sisters. He served as Deacon at Freedom church from 1907 until his death and was praised as a faithful husband father and citizen. The funeral sermon used Job 16 22.

Veedersburg Family Injured in Runaway Cart Incident

William Marquess and his son Jimmie were injured Sunday when a colt hitched to a farm cart bolted after a dirt pile. The elder man fell from the cart, suffering a deep knee cut and a bruised hip, while Jimmie escaped serious harm as the wheel passed near him. The horse dashed away and was later captured by bystanders.
