Beginning last Thursday night Indiana endured one of the most violent wind and rain events in memory. A small tornado damaged hen houses and roofs while heavy rain swelled ditches and basements. Floodwaters rose across counties causing bridges to wash out and trains to halt. Dozens died or are missing as towns like Attica and Terre Haute report extensive destruction and widespread disruption to telegraph and rail lines.

High School Talks Emphasize Habits Over Subjects
Mr. W W Parsons spoke to students on valuing a high school education through habits like punctuality honesty and industriousness. He noted agriculture prospects amid rising land and stock prices. Kingman and Covington debated with Kingman earning better grades. Covington offers more teachers and a public speaking class. Upcoming events include a Veedersburg debate on April 10 and eighth grade graduation exams at Yedda in April and May with 25 to 30 candidates. Dr Plattenburg visits April 11 as the final lecture of the course.

Hillsboro Couple Wed in Coyington by Mayor McGeorge
Lewis Murdock and Miss Vernice Lough, two well known Hillsboro youths, were married in Coyington Tuesday morning by Mayor McGeorge in his approved style. The bride is daughter of Charles Lough and the groom son of John Murdock, both of Hillsboro. The fathers accompanied the couple to Covington.

State creates fire marshal post with duties and powers
The legislature approved a state fire marshal law effective March 12 signed by Gov. Ralston. He will appoint a marshal within 30 days for four years at 4000 dollars yearly armed with duties to enforce fire safety laws, oversee explosives handling, fire extinguishers, arson investigations, and fire cause determinations. Deputies earn 2500 and 2000 dollars, one deputy may be an attorney. a secretary at 1200 dollars. clerks to be named with governor approval. Marshals report fires, insurers also report losses. inspections, and orders to property owners possible. Appeals lie to circuit court. The marshal can raze fire traps endangering neighbors.

Miss Anna Jones Dies at 24 in Local Home
Miss Anna Jones daughter of Mr and Mrs Fet Jones of the northwest neighborhood died Wednesday morning after a years long illness. She was 24 loved by all who knew her Funeral services will be held at the Cates church Friday at 10 AM with burial in Harveysburg cemetery.

An expert from Purdue University visited Grant Bonebrake to select a full blooded short horn calf for the beef cattle program. Albert Leffen, a suspect in the Wallace area robberies of Starnes & Son's store and the Myers residence, plus a horse theft from Naoma Myers, was robbed in Crawfordsville early this week.
