Obituary of Martha Atkinson, Dayton, Oregon
Martha Atkinson, born September 28 1848 near Bowlingdale Indiana daughter of Samuel and Ruth Lindley Atkinson, died February 3 1913 at her Dayton Oregon home after eleven years invalidism. She married Charles Hadley on March 3 1870 and moved to Oregon in 1894 settling at Newberg then a Dayton area farm. A devoted mother and neighbor she fed the hungry and welcomed all, few deteriorating days could dim her cheerful life. Surviving are her husband and three Dayton children Kenley D Ralph G Aller A plus sister Mary Richardson of Tangier. Funeral February 5 at the Methodist church with pastor W C Stewart drawing Psalms 35 14 as text. Burial Brookside Cemetery.

Child Burned to Death in Cradle Near Covington
A baby about 18 months perished from cradle clothing fire after a young child reportedly poured hot coals on the cover. The mother, wife of William Hartshorn, suffered severe burns joining in the rescue attempts. The incident occurred Saturday morning four miles northwest of Covington while she fed the chickens.

Printing Plant Destroyed by Fire in Cincinnati
A Friday morning report details a blaze destroying Cincinnati’s six story Traction Terminal. The fifth and sixth floors housed Baker & Byron printers with about 15000 dollars in losses. Baker is the husband of Viola Glascock Baker, daughter of Thos Glascock of this town. The Thursday night fire’s origin remains unknown. Baker was among the heaviest losers.

Infant Wilhite Dies After Brief Illness
George Leonard Wilhite a four month old son of Mr and Mrs G C Wilhite of near Cates died last Monday at 2 PM after a short illness. Funeral services were held at the family home Wednesday at 10 AM with interment in Harveysburg cemetery one mile north of here.

Burglar Strikes Wallace Area Stores and Homes
A Monday night burglary spree across Wallace targets Starns & Son in town, Mrs. Howard Smith’s nearby home, and Morgan’s Corner schoolhouse. The thief took two gold watches, knives, cash, a family horse, a shotgun, and a new attic pair, then fled toward Crawfordsville abandoned items along the rail line. Local efforts and telegraph efforts followed as investigators searched for the novice burglar.
