Madden and Son of Springdale stock farm 22 miles southwest of Kingman sold a batch of renowned Shorthorn heifers to W. W. Washburn, president of Citizens Bank at Crawfordsville, in a deal kept private for its exceptionally high quality. Washburn, touring Indiana and nearby areas, sought top stock for his Shorthorn venture after inspecting Madden’s herd seen in national shows, including the Chicago International. The sale underscores Madden and son Miles M. Madden and Lloyd Madden for elevating their herd to a leading regional standard.

Fire Narrowly Averted at C M Spencer Store
A fire nearly destroyed C M Spencer's furniture store last Saturday evening when a hollow wire gasoline lamp ignited a feather duster on a cotton mattress. Spencer turned, seized the blaze, tossed the duster outside, and quickly extinguished the flames before serious damage occurred.

Miss Velma Light Dead at Seventeen
Miss Velma Light died Thursday at the Light residence on east Jackson street after weeks of heart disease and rheumatic suffering. The Seventeen-year-old high school junior had shown hopeful ambition and earned a warm place among classmates before her untimely death. Funeral services were held Sunday.

Charged With Wife Desertion In Arkansas Case
Claude Harrison formerly of Veedersburg now runs a Cayuga restaurant and was arrested by Covington Sheriff last Saturday. He was handed to Magnolia county Arkansas authorities on a wife desertion charge in a complaint filed by his wife Bertha Harrison, daughter of the late Daniel Heath. The couple had moved to Arkansas. Harrison later resurfaced in Veedersburg before Mrs. Harrison joined him and left for Arkansas, prompting the suit.
