Express packages at the C. and E. depot caught fire while agent R B Myers stepped away to the elevator. He returned to a blaze that he doused with clothes and stamping, narrowly saving the building. Damage is estimated at sixty dollars to the express and scorched wall of the office. Origin of the fire remains unknown.
The Royal Neighbors of Fountain County met at Rob Roy on Thursday with seven Camps represented Yeddo Cats Kingman Veedersburg Attica and Rob Roy. A guessing contest awarded a Royal Neighbor pennant to Mrs A Z McDermond of Attica. Officers elected include President Mrs Bonerake Vedde Vice President Mrs LaBaw Veedersburg Secretary Mrs W A Hadley Kingman. The 1914 annual meeting will be in Attica in June.

A large attendance enjoyed a pleasant lawn social at the country home of Mr and Mrs E M Cox last evening. The program included music talks games and refreshments with Chinese lanterns lighting the lawn for a lively sequence of activities.
The high school senior class presents a home talent play titled Esmeralda at the opera house tomorrow night after the band concert. The four act comedy promises fun from start to finish with admission cut to 10 and 15 cents to ensure broad attendance. Follow the band to the venue.
The U B Sunday school to present a Children Day program next Sunday evening with a splendid lineup. Everyone is cordially invited. Robinson and Reath advertise fresh lard.
Frank Hudson, formerly of a farm near Cates, has bought a half-interest in C. M. Hudson's restaurant. The firm name is Hudson Bros. They have received a large shipment of candies suits and cigars and plan to offer a full line of restaurant accessories.
The notice lists church activities including Sunday School at 9:30 A M Junior League at 2:00 P M and Epworth League at 6:45 P M for the M E Church community.
Designs for two stamp books were approved, one holding 96-cent stamps and another with 24 one-cent and 24 two-cent stamps. All stamp books sell for one cent above stamp value, generating last year a government profit of $180,000.
The Kingman K of P and Jr O O F lodges held a joint memorial observance, tracing a large procession from cemetery to a grove, with Rev R Y Johnson delivering the address and a double male quartet singing. Eighty four members followed the band to the cemetery for a solemn ritual, marking the largest turnout in lodge history.
Mrs Emily Ratcliff Bond born October 18 1847 in Fountain County Indiana died June 9 1913 aged 65 8 22. She endured loss and cared for siblings and children and joined New Light church at Pleasant Grove. Survived by husband Mahlon Bond three children El Lillie Bradford John J Rosa Pond sister Ellen Lindley brothers and others. Funeral services by Rev Levi Woody at home and burial at Rush Creek cemetery.
The county eighth grade commencement date shifts from June 12 to June 17 to accommodate speaker President W. W. Parsons of the Terre Haute Normal. One hundred twenty six graduates will receive caps and gowns. The Newtown band is secured to provide music and preparations are extensive. Attica and Veedersburg hosted prior commencements, while Coyington aspires to surpass them in attendance and interest.
Miss Veda Anglemyer daughter of Mr and Mrs Wm Anglemyer formerly of this place, graduates from Crawfordsville high school this year with high honors. Seventy seven students received certificates at the commencement exercises held Tuesday evening. Her achievement is among the best in her class and will be welcome news to many friends here.
Sunday at the country home of Mr and Mrs John Livengood six miles south of Hillsboro hosted twenty three relatives and friends. A morning program featured music and a noon dinner followed by a two and a half hour joy ride through Wallace Kingman Cates Yeddo and Steam Corner. Attendees included Omar Livengood Chas Grimes Sol Livengood Ephie Gooding Rachel Lowe Effie Rice and others from Crawfordsville and Wallace.
Large attendance at Methodist and Christian churches last Sunday evening as Children’s Day exercises drew broad participation. Classes performed drills and exercises with a splendid musical program, drawing standing room crowd and high praise for organizers.
James B. Elmore will travel to Chicago by June 21 to be honored by the Indiana Society of Chicago and will perform at a banquet in Hammond the same day. He plans to recite a poem not yet chosen, denying a past slander about him eating peas with a knife.
Miss Merrile Zimmerman a Ladoga high school graduate has been in a trance since last Tuesday. She complained of fatigue and lay down to rest. Her mother found the condition unusual, with speculation that the final week’s work was too strenuous.

The Junior League of the M. E. church was organized last Sunday at 2 pm with ten charter members. Open to children up to 14 regardless of church, meetings held each Sunday at 2 under Miss Della Hurley. The Needleworkers Club was hosted by Mrs. F Jones with eleven of twelve members present and Mrs. Jones praised as hostess.
