Fourth of July Basket Dinner at Bales Grove Highlighted by Sermons

The 4th of July basket dinner is planned at Bales Grove with church groups promoting the event. Dr. Shannon of the U B church will lead a morning men's meeting and the 2 pm sermon, with Rev. R R Bulgin of the Christian church guiding services. Rev J M McHargue serves as chairman for the day.

Carrier Pigeon Captured and Released by Local Family

A carrier pigeon was found in a chicken yard by Mrs. H. P. McCrary last Saturday near noon. A metal leg band read 37684 A. J. The birds mission remains unknown, but the capture sparked local speculation and interest.

Pleasant surprise party for Vivian Ratcliff at Grandma Briggs

Twenty children gathered Tuesday afternoon at Grandma Briggs for a surprise party honoring Vivian Ratcliff. The group played games and enjoyed refreshments prepared by Mrs. S. E. Ratcliff. Vivian received several nice gifts.

Cates and Kingman Battle Ends 3–1 in Sun Game

Veedersburg News Reports Dixie Highway Route Fight

Fountain and Montgomery officials survey routes for the Dixie Highway with Crawfordsville and Danville in play. The preferred path goes through Waynetown Hillsboro and Veedersburg, while Covington stays neutral as Hillsboro Waynetown and Veedersburg push to win the southern route.

Country hosts and neighbors gather at Mrs Frank Maris home

Needleworkers Club held a pleasant meeting at Mrs Frank Maris's country home with all members present except one. Two guests, Mrs Mary Maris and Mrs T D Moffett, attended and refreshments were served. An ice cream and strawberry supper is planned at old Union church near Grange Corner next Saturday night. all invited. Thomas Murder Trial Opens in Vermillion County Court

The Robert Thomas murder trial began in Newport with Judge B S Aikman presiding. Accused shooter and his father, charged as an accessory, were among workers at the McIntire coal mine where Pleasant Delp was killed after a payoff dispute on January 9.

Redding the Bee Catcher Captures Italian Swarm

Prof. Harry Redding hoed in his garden when a cloud of bees drifted southward. He chased them for six blocks, doused them with dirt to disorient them, and cornered the swarm in a maple tree. He borrowed a hive, gathered the limb, and moved the bees indoors after nightfall.

Carnival of the Flowers Cantata at Kingman Opera House

The Methodist Sunday school presents a cantata titled The Carnival of the Flowers at the Kingman opera house next Sunday at 7 30. The free program replaces the Children’s Day event with 85 to 40 children in drills songs pantomimes and tableaux. Everyone is welcome to attend.
