Suicide Ends Life of Local Man in Cates Township

Alfred P. Shoaf 55, a respected resident of Cates, shot himself in a barn after a period of distress over a circulating scandal. He left a wife and six children, with four married, and had recently moved from a farm southwest of town. The tragedy followed efforts by family and friends to seek reassurance from the alleged source of the defaming report. Shoaf died at the scene and was buried in Harveysburg cemetery after a Sunday funeral.

Damage Suit Filed Against Dr. Coggins Over Ice Injury

Rebecca West fall sues Dr. Charles M. Coggins for 2000 in circuit court alleging negligence after an January 4 1910 ice fall caused a dislocated wrist broken hand and arm dislocation with crippling results. Plaintiff seeks 2000 plus costs and relief. Coggins counters with lawyers Nebeker and Ratcliff and vows to fight.

Uncle Lance Ewbank Dead shakes Kingman community

L C Ewbank longtime Fountain and northern Parke county resident dies at 73 after a lifetime of civic involvement. He leaves seven children and a wife. Funeral services are set for 10:60 Saturday morning at his residence with interment in Cashatt cemetery. Obituary to follow next week.

Death of Infant Bernice Bannon in Harveysburg

Infant Bernice Bannon eight months old, daughter of Mr and Mrs Charles Bannon, died Monday at 11 PM from cholera infantum after a brief illness. She was beloved in the home and the community offers sympathy. Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 PM, burial in Harveysburg cemetery.

Surprise Birthday Dinner For Sam Hybarger

Last Sunday marked the 59th birthday of Sam Hybarger. His wife and children coordinated a surprise party as about 30 relatives and friends gathered at his home as he returned from helping dig the grave of Alford Shoaf. A noon repast followed and all reported a pleasant day.
