Veedersburg News notes a Wallace area quilt showing sixteen names aged 80 to 97. Ages include Eliza J Cade 80 and Rev L Bannon 97, with total aggregate 1457 years. Two never married. descendants of the other fourteen total 324. Zenna McGinnis provided the names.
Cates school beat K. H. S. 9 to 6 at Packett's Park after a hit heavy ninth inning rally by K. H. S. Freshman R. Myers started for K. H. S. and allowed two hits in the first five frames before tiring. Holland relieved and held the visitors to one run in three innings as Campbell stalled the home club's late push. Moore Duncan and Hamm stood out with sharp fielding and timely catches.
The 1915 Kingman High School graduation will take place tonight at 8 15 in the Kingman Opera House. W W Black of the State University will deliver the commencement address. Music by the Kingman Boys orchestra and a full program of marches, solos, and diplomas will follow with Rev B F Clifton delivering the invocation and benediction.
Cleveland Allen of Fulton township wed Miss Jessie Miller formerly of Cates now near Wallace. Rev. J. M. McHargue officiated at the home ceremony Tuesday seven o’clock. The couple are well known and receive best wishes from friends. The high school play Friday night drew a fair crowd with Seniors delivering a fine performance of Why Smith Left Home. W. A. Moore was in Covington yesterday.
The Indiana Federation of Women's Clubs aims to save 200 acres of Turkey Run in Parke county from logging. At a Spring board meeting in Indianapolis they urged the governor to appoint an honorary commission to study preserving the land as a state park, possibly a bird park, with purchase and transfer to the women of Indiana.
Rev George Moore of Bloomingdale delivered a moving baccalaureate sermon to twelve graduates at the Kingman opera house last Sunday afternoon. He urged the students to face future tests with faith and perseverance as a large audience listened intently for over an hour. Rev B F Clifton led the invocation and benediction in Rev J M McHargue’s absence, while the quartet rendering impressed attendees who called it the best service of its kind.
A stranger named Wilson was arrested Monday in Veedersburg for theft at the Central Hotel. He confessed to taking about fifteen dollars from A. H. Pearlman and received a sentence of one to eight years in the State penitentiary, pronounced by Judge Schoonover in Covington.
E M Gifford completes a successful term as superintendent of the Kingman schools and signs to supervise Warren Indiana schools. His departure is met with regret as Warren offers a larger district and advancement, with best wishes from many friends.
In Parke county an eighth grade pupil achieved the highest grade in the county on a recent graduation examination. Benjamin Kendall scored 955 7 and James Wakeland 92, with Kendall’s mark as the county’s best yet.
E C Hadley and S M Rat drove to Covington Tuesday with Rat moving on to Indianapolis. Mr and Mrs W H Atcheson of Annapolis visited relatives here last Sunday. Peat Keerns was called to Danville Monday by his mother's death. Mrs Ann Philpott went to Hillsboro Friday to visit relatives. Mr and Mrs Fremont Russell were in Covington yesterday.
State agents directed library classification and training for local board members and young women. Volume holdings include 200+ children’s books from the Traveling Library and 300+ adult works, with magazines arriving soon. Jean Bove elected librarian and Myra Ford assistant. public access begins April 24 with regular hours to follow. Donors outside Millcreek Township may borrow books gratis in 1915.
Theron Ratcliff of Grange Corner reports recovery after a serious accident that fractured his limbs in four places. He suffers little pain but will need time to regain use of his limbs. He thanks Marshall friends who helped at the train and after his Indianapolis hospital trip. All other injured in the accident are improving.
The U B Church announces preaching next Sunday morning and evening at the usual hour. Sunday School at 9 30 AM. Young Peoples Meeting at 6 30 PM. Men's Bible Class led by Rev Abner McHargue open to all men. Third Quarterly Meeting on May 2 Sunday night with Dr. Shannon expected. E J Jenkins Pastor.
Mrs John Carter, age 58, died at her daughter Mrs William Weeks home after a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at Centennial Church at 2:00 this afternoon.
Dr. E A Keller relocates his medical practice from the Philpott garage to the Newman livery barn. Mr and Mrs Wm Carter welcome a fine boy born last Saturday.
List of babies born in Fountain County during January to March with names grouped by locale Fulton Millcreek Van Buren Wabash Richland Shawnee Troy Covington and others. Notes that unlisted births were not reported and to notify the Health Commissioner.
Seventh and eighth grade pupils held a picnic and supper at Bales grove on Tuesday afternoon and evening in honor of Miss Emily Hanshoe, the Kingman school’s Music and Art teacher. Mr and Mrs J W Metsker attended the funeral of James Hall in Pine Village on Wednesday.
C M Spencer G W Spencer and G G Bales traveled to Lafayette to fetch a new funeral car for C M Spencer. Delayed by incomplete wiring for the car lights the vehicle arrived near midnight. The steel gray car with gilt monograms is built on an Oakland truck and praised as a strong and stylish addition to town.
Arrangements for the second biennial encampment of the Uniform Ranks Knights of Pythias of Indiana and Illinois were completed by Brig. Gen. William B. Gray in Covington Indiana. The event will be at French Lick the week of August 15 with Indiana and Illinois staging the first joint encampment. Knights will camp on a hill by a large hotel and a spring grove hosts drills and parades on polo grounds.
Lee Graves grandson of Mr and Mrs T H Van Duyn and Ruth Hybarger were quietly married at 8 pm Tuesday at the home of Rev A H Bardin in the presence of a few guests. Both are well known locally and receive best wishes for a happy married life.
May Day social planned for May 1 at the opera house with a country store in the afternoon and a moving picture show entertainment at night. Ice cream and cake to be served after noon and evening. Also notice of B F McHenry death in Tacoma Wash and a visit by Mrs Otha Cox and children to spend time with her father T B Nolan.
