Dr. Charles E. Atkinson reports fall enrollment at KSU could reach 5900, with 5777 already enrolled. Freshmen totals rise to 1357 with expected late arrivals near 1400, while veteran enrollment falls to 2702 and 178 veterans study at the Canton extension.
The first all university football pep rally of the year lights Prenticegate at 8 p m with a torchlight procession through Kent led by the band and cheerleaders. Col Thomas Wall and Coach Trevor Rees will speak as the 1949 Golden Flashes receive introductions.
Journalism students are urged to sign up to write for the Kent Stater. Open vacancies include reporting proof-reading and feature writing with opportunities to work under Art Garner editor and Bob Burdock managing editor.
Lt. Col. Thomas Wall reports ROTC enrollment rose this quarter to about 400 students from 364 cadets last June. He notes roughly 80 freshmen, 149 juniors, and 67 seniors are in the unit.
Kent State University opens its fall lecture series with Dr. J. O. Perrine and Senator Robert A. Taft each scheduled to speak. Perrine, AT&T executive and physicist, discusses new horizons in communications and microwave demonstrations. Taft speaks on national political topics.
The 1949 Burrs Chestnut yearbook is nearly printed and should reach KSU students around October 15. Delays stemmed from printing schedule misunderstandings by Burr staff and the Gray Printing Co. editor Germane Swanson apologized to June graduates for the postponement.
Students may submit scripts for the 1950 No Time for Classes show. Submissions are due by 4 p.m. at the first student council meeting on Monday October 3.
Prof G Harry Wright oversees the season opener tryouts for John Loves Mary at 321A Kent Hall from 3 5 pm and 7 10 pm. The show needs three women and seven men and is the first university theatre production of the year. Norman Krasna wrote the script. Kent State Showboat Majestic style. intermission candy tickets prize from the stage. popcorn sold. vaudeville acts after the play with showboat acts and more tryouts later. All students may try out for the play or vaudeville.
KSU students may apply for scholarships to the second annual Industrial Editors Institute to be held October 6 and 7 at the Statler hotel in Cleveland. Attendees pay only room and board, with registration free for any student in the field. Speakers include Robert D. Breth on readership surveys, Fred G. Clark on editorials about socialism, and Gordon C. Garbutt of Ford Motor Company of Canada as dinner speaker.
The Chestnut Burr editorial staff will meet today at 4 p.m. in the Burr office to discuss ongoing coverage.
Mayor Frank Dangler says students must follow all parking rules or face consequences as police issue violations. University traffic director Les Morgan requires student cars be registered even if not owned by the student. dorm residents barred from possessing cars. Parking options are Moulton, Main, and Terrace lots. permits handled by the traffic office or deans, with disability exceptions noted.
