The elections committee settled on a compromise to accept nominations filed by 12 08 p m Friday eight to one. Petitions after that time were voided and Council will decide today if the committee acted legally.
Four one act plays will be produced in the round Thursday at 7 30 in Room 119 K by the University Studio Theatre. Three comedies and one drama are staged with student actors and directors. No admission charge and all are invited.
The second annual cheering contest between sorority pledges will be held with a pre game rally at 8 P M Thursday in front of the Library. The Booster club will award a megaphone for the top group and the rotating trophy becomes permanent after three consecutive wins.
The Women’s league invites all freshmen transfers and their big sisters to the annual Big Little Sister Tea Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. in the Union lounge. Co chairs Esther Pritchard and Betsy Wooddell are joined by Evelyn Waugh Roseann Minchak Marge Choate Mary Jo Ellis Barbara Schuck for planning and decorations. Dormitory house mothers will pour. in line are Dr. Ada V. Hyatt and Mrs. Margaret Swanson along with the President’s wife and league president.
An all University Halloween party sponsored by Blue and Gold unfolds tonight in the Sandy Lake pavilion. A snake dance starts at Pren tice gate at 6 30 p m and winds past dormitories to Moulton hall lot, with rides provided by Carl Viviani. Joan Wilhelm serves as co chairwoman. candidates for next Tuesday’s election will be introduced.
Sixty students have summonses to appear for a second session of the year. Pleas will be heard at 5 p m today in room 101 M.
Education college dean Dr. Robert I. White Jr says students who have not taken the handwriting test may take it Thursday at 2 p.m. in 317 McG. The session is open to all College of Education students.
The United States will exchange two graduate students yearly with signatory republics. For the 1952 academic year, candidates from Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Venezuela may be chosen. Applicants must have US citizenship and a bachelor’s degree or equivalent, show language ability, health and good character, and present a feasible study or research plan approved by an advisor. Preference goes to those under 35 and veterans. Transportation is paid by the US government. hosting countries cover tuition and a monthly maintenance allowance. Apply to the International Educational Programs branch, U S Office of Education, Washington 25, D C, by January 15, 1952.
Princess Ileana of Romania described her homeland contrasting prewar life with Soviet influence. She called farming central, noted government factory jobs and long hours, and urged faith in Romania. Funds from her address funded a Romanian displaced persons scholarship.
The second Life magazine photographic essay on ancient civilizations features the Incas. The show runs from tomorrow through November 15 in the Kent Hall second floor gallery. Photographer Frank Scherschol, advisor to KSUs press photography short course, presents largely unpublished images from the Urubamba valley in Peru.
Bulletin reports the elections committee decided late last night to accept every petition regardless of when it was filed, extending eligibility and potentially changing the ballot.
The committee faced indecision and off the record admonitions from Kitchin as Bud Davis urged quick votes on eight minute late petitions. Mary Newberry was elected secretary. The group later revived a dismissed minutes vote and approved petitions from Monday and another by Bob Krasovec.
