The men's union via committee chair Henry LaTorraca announced continued talks for the semester after a strong response to weekly lectures for senior men. First Draft Numbers Announced by Secretary Stimson
Secretary of the Navy Stimson drew a blue capsule from the historic goldfish bowl and President Roosevelt announced the first draft serial number as 158. A mother watching cried as her son’s number was called, initiating the national youth lottery. The list includes the first 28 numbers likely to comprise the initial draft. Freshmen Name Hansen Advisor In Unanimous Vote
Howard C. Hansen, speech instructor, was chosen freshman advisor by unanimous vote at the first meeting in the auditorium. President Ray Gallagher led the session as plans for a weiner roast skating party and picnic were listed for social committee action. Workshop Promotes Public Cooperation in Teacher Education
Ohio wide educational improvement group released a 1940 program titled A Program for Teacher Education. Sophomore pilot’s 40 minute solo flight at Kent State
Harold Thwaite, a sophomore graduate of Uncle Sam’s summer flying course, flew for 40 minutes in assembly and landed with little fuel left delaying four other speakers.
