In a survey conducted Wednesday and Thursday students favored not sending an American army to Europe by 54 percent to 46 percent. The poll indicates many students are less eager for immediate involvement than editorials of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
The Stater declares isolationist, non interventionist policy with six points. It opposes Hitlerism, Russian communism, and British imperialism and rejects entering war for any of these. It favors fortifying the hemisphere to deter foreign attack, arguing defense at home is likelier than warfare abroad.
Statistics show 46 percent YES and 54 percent NO from 501 students polled. Sophomore Jack Ready says Hitler must be stopped and rejects living under a Hitler-led world, while Harry Kuzmenko voices opposing views.
Ralph Braden head cheerleader announced a 10 45 o clock pop send off for the team with a musical migration. A cheerleader in each bus will lead the way as decorated buses carry students in blue and gold. Kim the Flashes mascot German shepherd joins the group for the trip to the game.
Campus Greeks skip regular meetings Monday to back Mary Jane OBrien as Homecoming queen candidate with a 7 to 10 rally at the Deck. The program features Greek candidate presentations and a jam session led by trombonist Johnny Lemak, with a music lineup including George Fawcett Tom Justice Jack Ward Jules Boguhar and Herbie Rosen. Attendees are urged to wear suit coats.
The Ohio Athletic Conference defeated a Kent State plan to split into two groups at Mansfield meeting. Dr Roberts and G D Starn presented the idea to divide by male enrollment with freshmen scheduling. Most schools opposed the proposal though Kenyon Ashland Otterbein and Marietta acknowledged no-fresh limits hurt them.
Denise Davey, French born lecturer and founder of Free French Relief chapters, will speak at the French club meeting next Friday at 4 p m in room 214 Merrill Hall.
With all coaches unaware, Golden Flash players met under Captain Vernon Heichel at the University to discuss the slump after a 7-6 loss to Case and a 0-0 tie with West Liberty. Each man offered criticism and ideas to lift morale before the Western Reserve game.
Thunder Rock, University Theater’s first major production of the year, opens Thursday October 30 in the University auditorium.
Sen Robert A Taft arrives in Kent at 7 am to address University students and faculty at 9 am in an assembly directed by Prof Alvin J Miller. Taft notes in a telegram to the States he would be glad to answer more after Friday's talk and declines the current survey question. He will remain at the university until late afternoon meeting several groups.
The standards committee ruled there is no conflict between a preceding semester average of two point zero for extracurriculars and a cumulative two point average for student council eligibility. The debate followed junior council member Irving Waterbury being deemed ineligible, with Dr Constantine Alexopoulos praising the higher council standard.
Dr Bruce Anthony former USC economics professor told the International relations club members there is too much dissension about democracy in this country. He urged a negative stance toward Hitlerism and stressed unity in values.
Betty Keller Independent candidate for Homecoming Queen will wear a lineman’s uniform for a publicity photo next week. Ken Davis said the field will honor the best performer in the Migration Day clash with Western Reserve University. He said the gimmick adds sex glamour never seen before.
