Ten university men reported to Mid City airport for their first flight lesson in the Elementary Civilian Pilot Training program. The 72 hour ground school opens tonight and the class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 7 to 10 PM, supplementing actual flight practice.
Adrian Van Wyen, head of the Civilian Pilot Training course at Kent, announced last night that liberal arts students in the elementary training pilot course would receive two hours credit, while those in the secondary course would earn three hours. The rule passed at the liberal arts curriculum committee meeting after Van Wyen's recommendation.
The advanced course begins this week with ground school sessions on Monday Wednesday and Friday 7 to 10 p.m. Art Stanley will be the secondary flight instructor for Kent. Elementary flight students include Ted Modzeleski Harold Wright Edward Loomis Robert Truxell Eugene Wise William Ashton John Schwartz Arden Mills John Sweeny and Raymond Gallagher. Alternates are John Shanks and Robert Stewart.
Rifle fans are invited to a meeting in room 302 Merrill Hall today at 4 p m to form a Kent State Rifle Club. Organizers Jack Turley and Eckhardt Sautter will discuss membership and plans to affiliate with the National Rifle Association and inter-collegiate matches.
Two university men stranded after being locked out of a rooming house returned from Cleveland and sought help from the dean of men and dean of women. They were unable to stay there Sunday night and finally received an invitation to use President K C Leebrick's guest room for the night.
The first Staters head to Kent student camps as donations doubled from the prior week. The penny drive raised over $26 with $12 in personal contributions, fueling a larger Help the KSA army men campaign. Dean Raymond E. Manchester said drives will continue weekly until funds suffice. Cards about soldier addresses were mailed to parents, Agnes Young reported.
Dress rehearsal for the freshman play Captain Applejack will be held tomorrow evening. G Harry Wright, associate professor of speech and director of the play, announced yesterday. Mary Haines Jeanne Phister and Ed Stanton have the leads. Other cast members include Peg Curry Dale Rowe Don Shanower Adelaide Snyder Charles Piper Wilbur Adams and Neil Sheppard.
A radio speaking contest sponsored by the Men's Union and run by the Student Forensic Association starts Monday at 4 p.m. in the Radio Workshop. Open to university men with no prior intercollegiate or radio experience. Registration ends Friday at 4 p.m. in the dean of men's office.
Friday night fracas left the Golden Flashes with seven sidelined players. Injuries include Lou Boffo with a broken leg, Chet Bania a twisted knee, Floyd Thorne a skin rash, Bo Dutton an injured knee, Joe Fortunato a burst blood vessel, Lou Toth a sore shoulder, and Vernon Heichel sore tissues.

Journal of Morphology November issue includes James Heath article.
Kent State University begins on air broadcasts on WADC Akron with two 30 minute programs. The first, a faculty driven round table, airs November 1 at 7 30 p m. The second program, starting November 4 at 4 p m, features campus news student discussion and music.

The Kent Stater will sponsor a Leebrick Day assembly honoring President K C Leebrick on Thursday Oct 16 at 10 am in the University auditorium. It marks the third annual celebration of his inauguration and the third year the Stater has led the program with a student body gift presentation.
