Second collection of pennies to aid Kent State University men in army and navy camps will be held tomorrow. Dean Raymond B. Manchester asks students to report to the dean of men's office and supply names of Kent men in camps to benefit the fund.
Dr. Donald Anthony head of the department of business administration has had his name added to the latest edition of Who's Who in Twentieth Century Fund in recognition of special research in labor relations.
The condition of T. E. Davey Jr., assistant professor of history, has improved and he is expected to resume teaching shortly. Mr. Davey has been absent from classes since the first week of school.
Miss Jeanette Matson, secretary to Dean Earl W recraft of the college of liberal arts, will resign October 15. Miss Ada McShary, assistant in Pres. K C Leebrick's office, will take Miss Matson's place.
Seese, a senior in liberal arts and former student council president, lies in the infirmary with a serious infection. Mittie Smith, resident nurse, announced the condition yesterday.
Three hundred students attended a social dancing program at Wills gym last night. Clement Brown, Akron dance master, taught over 250 in both beginning and advanced dancing classes.
Dr. C. C. Kochenderfer head of the division of commerce said curtailment of gasoline in Ohio is inevitable and stations may close at night and Sundays. He warned lack of transportation will cause a minor shortage as pipelines are over burdened and railroad rates are too high.
Delegates from 53 Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky colleges invited to the Ohio Valley international relations clubs conference to be held here November 7 and 8. Noted speakers from Haverford and Mt. Union plus Carnegie Endowment will discuss Europe and the Future, the Western Hemisphere, Problems in the Orient, and the United States and a World at War. Edward Moore presides, Dr. W. G. Meinke advises.
The Social Science section of the College of Liberal Arts will elect officers at its meeting today at 4 p.m. in room 102 Merrill Hall. Professor Louis A. Tohill announced the event yesterday.
Harry Adams, Golden Flash line coach, told seniors at the Robin Hood luncheon that Kent’s passing attack could decide the outcome. He noted Lehigh was dizzy against Case’s aerial defense and predicted an air battle as Clevelanders used passing to win 33 26. Senior luncheons continue Tuesdays with Bob Mosher presiding.
Plans to turn the university entertainment program into an artists series were announced by Prof. C. E. Satterfield chair of the entertainment committee. Season tickets may be bought by non students for concerts plays and educational events. the Marine Band opened the first series. Funds from public ticket sales will fund more prominent speakers and better entertainment.
Powell is elected vice president and Eddie Boyle alumni secretary in the Blue Key meeting. They will succeed George Fleischer and Leonard Open, now in the U S armed forces. L Hill named Blue Key committee chairman for Homecoming decorations. Joe Blair Leonard Shafitz Hill Powell and Fred Prasse will represent Blue Key at the 2 p m all University pep rally today.
The Student Forensic association outlined a broadened program for the coming year as Joe Blair, student manager, welcomed 30 new students into the club. Joe Hart, Carol Sayers, and Scheffer Pierce from the University debate team spoke on plans and student leadership.
Chi Pi members will discuss eligible pledges at a 7 30 p m meeting in the journalism house 528 E Summit Street The group seeks to enlarge the organization and invites journalism majors who are at least a second semester sophomore with a 25 GPA in the prior semester to apply
The University seeks float ideas for a giant defense parade in Kent on October 19. Prizes include two theatre passes and an honorary certificate. E L Kidwell of Schine's Kent theatre will assist. Submissions must be at the registrar by 5 p m Thursday. winner to be announced in the STATER.
University president Dr. K. C. Leebrick praised a Kent project as a model of education in a democracy. He stated the endeavor demonstrates student cooperation toward a desirable civic outcome.
During Monday council meeting officials discussed float ideas lacking flowers due to season and considered bunting while awaiting incoming letters. Negotiations to bring the motion picture Sergeant York to Kent for a preview fell through as student leaders plan a campus rally around a several mile parade. The university all girl band will march and Ravenna display is expected.
The first all-out pep rally for Kent State football is at 2 pm in the University auditorium. All 2 o'clock classes are dismissed for students to attend. Prof Alvin J. Miller announced the program. G. D. Starn will introduce the coaching staff and 1941 squad. the 80 piece band will perform several patriotic and school songs.
Assistant professor M. E. Wagoner announced a special student rate for the Case game. Non student tickets go on sale in the dean of men's office today, tomorrow, and Friday priced at 1.15 and 1.30 dollars respectively.
Alpha Omega sorority was indicted yesterday by the Pan-Hellenic council on charges of exerting undue influence on rushees during the Round Robin. The penalty committee, composed of sorority faculty advisors, may suspend pledging or social privileges or impose fines if found guilty.
