Gene Carroll of Cleveland will award a scholarship to the best performer in NTFC's No Time For Classes. He will bring two judges including a Music Corporation of America representative. NTFC presents Jan 11 12 13 in the university auditorium with 25 cent admission.
Seniors who had Chestnut Burr portraits taken at Frank Hill or Robert Swartout studios must view proofs and choose their preferred image. Many students forgot two pictures were taken and yearbook placement depends on the student. Sophomore and junior group pictures will be dropped from the 1950 yearbook after a policy review with Prof William Taylor.
Students may submit changes to names and addresses for the new directory via the Student Residence Advisor. The office on the first floor of Merrill Hall will process corrections this week only.
Booster club resumes membership drive with cards sold at the booster booth between Merrill Hall and the atrium. Membership costs 1 annual dollar. Kappa Sigma Chi leads with 100 percent membership since 1947. Bill Dunbar announces 1000 students belong. organization is non profit and receives no student funds.
The Alpha Phi sorority hosts the All Greek formal at East Market gardens in Akron on Friday December 9 from 9 to midnight with George Conway's orchestra. Pledges will be presented at intermission under Jackie Duke. Active members and guests will attend with banners and fraternity songs.
Final steps begin tomorrow at 9 and run through December 12. Students must fill white cards and pay fees. Trial programs class tickets and large white cards available in the atrium. Dr C E Atkinson says registration will proceed without confusion if fees are paid before the final day January 3.
The Daily Kent Stater seeks applicants for editor and business manager positions for the winter quarter. A committee meeting is set for Wednesday, December 7 at 4 p.m. in the School of Journalism office. Applications due by 4 p.m. Monday, December 5. interviews will follow.
Santa Claus will headline the all university Christmas Dance at Wills gym this Saturday from 9 to midnight. Admission is free and Santa will hand out gifts at intermission while Roland Gamble and his orchestra provide music. Sponsoring committees include band Lloyd Miller decorations Bill Schroeder arrangements John Kapioltas gifts Ginny Vaughn chaperones Shirley Chambers publicity Char Schacht. All university women will have 12:30 late permits.
The music department reports good student response to Cavalleria Rusticana and I Pagliacci and plans more concerts. The Cleveland Orchestra performs this Saturday at 8 30 p m in Severance Hall. Students may order tickets at student prices in room 315 Merrill Hall with a 3 p m Thursday deadline.
Dorothy Thompson the prominent journalist will address the University Forum on Saturday evening, Feb. 4, in the auditorium. She will discuss These Crucial Days and share insights from a career spanning Europe and the United States, including interviews with Terrence McSweeney and reports on Adolf Hitler.
The library sponsors a screening of Jane Eyre in 317McG tonight at 6 and 8 15 with Joan Fontaine and Orson Welles. Tickets are available at the library check out desk only one per student activity card. Previous library showings of Anna and the King of Siam and How Green Was My Valley drew capacity crowds.
UT announces casting for the winter production Philadelphia Story directed by Prof. Earle E. Curtis. The radio party comedy features Jane Gates Bill Mc Gaw Lea Baumann Al Newman and Charles Pressons in lead roles with Jessica Perry Gene Mekler Rick Uray Dolores Clark and Jim Iaco-Valzzi as major supporters. Rehearsals underway with full evenings after Family Portrait closing. Tickets on sale in Kent Hall area and Admin Building. free for students with activity or UT cards, others 60 cents.
Greyhound announces permanent routes from Kent to Cleveland with direct bus departures every Friday at 4 15 p m and 5 15 p m from Moulton Hall parking lot.
