Powers Named To New Post

Murray Powers, longtime news and Sunday editor of the Akron Beacon Journal, is named managing editor. The appointment fills the vacancy created by the death of Lynn H. Holcomb on November 12. Powers has served as editing instructor since 1941.

ROTC Dinner Set At Elks For Advanced Classes

Two advanced ROTC classes will hold an informal dinner at the Elks club on December 8 at 6 p.m. Lt. Col. Thomas F. Wall will represent the ROTC staff. Tickets go on sale December 6 to cover dinner costs.

Alma Mater Plans At Booster Club Meeting

The Booster club advisory committee discussed singing the Alma Mater for the coming basketball season and appointed a committee to teach the song to all students. They heard reports on the progress of the fact finding board and discussed Hall of Fame admittance.

Residents of Moulton hall arrange a semi formal Christmas dance in the Moulton hall music room on December 4 from 9 to 12. Roland Gamble and his orchestra will provide music for the affair. Admission is 1.60 per couple with guest couples invited by dormitory girls.

Rabbi Julius J. Nodel of The Temple in Cleveland urged Americans to be thankful for democracy after a difficult decade. Speaking to 300 students at a Thanksgiving assembly, he called for a spiritual war to renew hope and faith in democratic ideals.

Several Kansas State University faculty will work through the Thanksgiving holiday. Spicer’s Home Economics talk will appear in December’s Home Economics Journal. Massimore and Machan draft an article for Modern Language Journal titled They Learn So Easily.

Pre Med Meeting Set for Tuesday at 4 P M

A meeting of all pre medical students is scheduled for Tuesday December 30 in room 419McG at 4 p m Professor Kenneth L Kelley stressed the importance of full attendance and urged all students to attend.

Proofs of senior pictures are in the process of being returned. Each senior must choose the best proof and return all to the Chestnut Burr office by Wednesday December 1. Enlargements can be ordered at the Burr office, according to Pat Buxton.

Winter Theme Snow Ball At Twin Lakes Club

Taukappa hosts a semi formal Snow Ball at Twin Lakes Country Club on Friday December 3 from 9 to 12. Dave Huprich and his Rhythm Rascals lead a ten piece orchestra with white frosted balloons and a snow themed setup. Chaperones include Dean and Mrs Manchester Professor and Mrs Brewer and Mr and Mrs Kirk. Girls receive 1 30 permits. Tickets cost 2 dollars a couple and booster sale is in the atrium. Proceeds benefit the stadium drive.
