The Elections Committee disqualifies Bob White and Bob Duncan from MU officer race after ISA protest citing violations of the Student Government Charter. The officer election will be decided later by class representatives to be chosen Nov. 20.
Reminiscences of broadcasting from a small town station open this morning's NBC program featuring Fred Waring and the Pennsylvanians. Five Waring crew members join a skit with Bill Bivens Daisy Don Craig and Hugh Brannum. The group ends their tour with You'd Be So Nice to Come Home To as 60 musicians move to Buffalo Rochester and then New York City.
A three day YMCA membership drive starts today at the university Student Y M C A booth. Bob White, president, says the aim is to build mind body and spirit and invites all students to join regardless of race color or creed. Plans include hayrides dances and wiener roasts. Debaters visited to discuss The Danger of War Can Best Be Averted By An Anglo American Alliance.
Akron University tensions rise as students prepare a 7 p.m. bonfire rally on Thursday. Booster president Mickey Dover organizes a campus guard with fraternity pledge classes assigned to guard duty. Reports of earlier car sorties and a “A” burned on the campus lawn precede plans for what is described as the university’s largest pep rally.
Professor Carleton J Smyth of the KSU journalism faculty and other newsmen will meet President Truman at the White House Friday at 1130 a m. The talk is part of the second annual convention of the National Association of Radio News Directors in Washington D C scheduled for November 13 14 and 15.
University men unaffiliated with women warned to stay off the front campus this Saturday at 3 PM. A Sadie Hawkins race, annual and ISA scheduled, will run from Rockwell Library to Prentice Gate. Rules come from the Dogpatch Board of Trustees handbook.
Male students must register with W Dan Oana or Hank Shapiro under threat of punishment from a Dogpatch court. The Sadie Hawkins dance at Wills gym features judges Miss Dorothy Hawkins Mrs Peri Tucker Roy Wilhelm and prizes for embodying comic characters. Music by the Solituders, chaperones listed, and details of the unconventional race ritual noted.
Alan Freed, Akron disc jockey, will provide foot by foot narration from Rubber Bowl before the Akron Kent football game. Kent State journalism squad under Prof William Taylor trains at 5:30 a.m. with a 500 yard cross country run. The team lists members including Gillespie Goldstein Blumer Lingacher Dantzic Hugo Vitsky Messersmith Dempsey Haney Dover Wentz Heaslip Post Warman. A five member women’s auxiliary will join for two events. The event starts at 7 p.m. Friday.
University flying club will meet at 7 this evening in 109M to consider the second draft of the new financing plan. The group aims to promote inexpensive flying rates for students and faculty while many former GI flight students chose to discontinue flying under the new system.
