Voting irregularities reported in freshman upperclass election

Stater reporters uncovered that freshmen could vote in an upper class race by using a soft rubber eraser to erase the activity notation. A second ballot was cast by the same voter, with only the second ballot stub deposited. The election, run by a six member elections committee led by Hank Johnston, faced questions over candidate eligibility and class verification.

Seven Added To Faculty At Kent State University

Trustees of Kent State University approved seven new faculty appointments. A. J. Belanger was named associate professor of industrial arts, with other new appointees including William C. Darrah in business administration Ernest E. Stowell in foreign languages Hilda Jane Ellis in English Robert Pearce in the school of speech Mildred O. Merkle as study hall and guidance instructor at the training school and Philip R. Lamb as chemistry instructor at the Canton campus.

Cited irregularities void Men’s Union election vote

The student council elections committee voided yesterday’s Men’s Union election due to intentional discrepancies. Issues included lack of MU constitution, ineligible candidate, a candidate who dropped out, ineligible freshman voters, multiple ballot use, cross ticket voting, and lax ID checks. A new election will be held after class lists are prepared.

Former GI Barracks Nearing Completion

Names Needed For Air Unit At Akron Airport

A petition for a reserve air squadron at Akron municipal airport will be placed on bulletin boards. Signatures of former RAF personnel and servicemen are needed. Ground crew and flying personnel positions would be open if the plan succeeds. Akron and surrounding area have enough population to support a training unit.

Math Courses May Be Added

The university junior varsity football team won 14 to 0 over Western Reserve JV at the university field. A 25 yard scoring pass from Al Bohus to Bernard Conley capped an 82 yard drive, and Conley added the extra point to put the Flashes up 7-0 at halftime.
