The 1947 Pigskin Prom Queen election will be held today at the field house with a pre practice vote by football players. Prom tickets go on sale at 1 p.m. Booster booth. members pay fifty cents per couple, regular price is one dollar at the door Friday. The Solituders provide music and the football team will serve as mass escorts at the queen’s presentation.
Henry Beck Jr will speak on strobe lighting and demonstrate speed light photography at the Lens and Shutter club meeting in 303K at 7 30 p m. Beck teaches photography and biology and has built portable and studio units. University students and faculty may attend.
The University theatre previews Harriet directed by E Turner Stump with Helen Mitrovka as Harriet Beecher Stowe and Don DeSimio as the professor husband. The three night run opens tomorrow at 8 15 p m in the auditorium with reserve seats in Kent hall corridor.
Council of presidents will meet for the last time at 4 p.m. in room 115K. Organization presidents are urged to attend and present their views on the matters under discussion.
Prof James N Holm of the speech department will speak at 7 30 tonight in 219K to students and faculty at a discussion on organizational leadership. Cardinal Key and Blue Key have invited him to address presidents and officers about the duties of office and the need for capable leaders now and in the future. The talk is part of a two night program to inform current officers and potential leaders of their responsibilities.
Burr staff will gather in room 107M at 4 p.m. today, as announced by editor Frank Carioti.
The student council decided to omit the year of graduation from fresh dinks. They will buy enough dinks for freshmen and reuse leftovers next year. Freshman advisors John Gressard Phil Dempsey and Bill Shuttleworth to set cap rules and hazing guidelines. Council will buy keys for current members with funds from the dinks sale.
Cardinal Key requests good photographs of campus snow scenes. Negatives or prints will be paid for if used. Submit to the Cardinal Key mailbox in Kent Hall by Wednesday evening.
Kent police in the business district watched as six cheerleaders a 90 piece band and 200 students paraded down Main street after Kent State University defeated a favored John Carroll team. Coach Trevor Rees addressed the crowd noting the players’ effort as the march looped through town ending at the university library.
The first of three proposed buildings begins with an 800000 dollar student center and classroom block to be built beside Engleman hall. Ground breaking is at 3 p.m with President George A. Bowman and faculty and student representatives in attendance.
The Sociology club meets at 4 p.m. in Moulton Hall Music Room to start two study projects. Research may take weeks, says project director Lois Schmetzer. If successful, results could greatly deepen understanding of campus life.
Varsity K will meet in 212 McG at 6 30 p m. All lettermen invited. Official emblem adoption to be discussed. Date and place to be set for the Sweater hop for members only.
