Ward's Band Plays Tonight at Soo Hop in Wills Gym

Jack Ward and his five piece orchestra headline a social dance in Wills gym from 8 30 to 10 15 p m the only social dance this quarter with an orchestra. Bill Byrne also appears with the band. Proceeds go to the social dancing fund to hire more orchestras. balance to the stadium fund. Next week last gym dance before moves to Moulton Hall.

English Heads Hold Confab at Ohio State Conference

Professor Howard Francis Seely head of English at Ohio State University will speak at the English conference in Moulton hall Friday November 5. Topics include Objectives Attitudes and Technique of English Teaching with audience discussion led by Dean Robert White. Evan Lodge will discuss Tools for Teaching and Grading Compositions followed by a panel including Mollie Russell Lola Daugherty and H A Dillihay. Jean Bartlett will speak briefly at the morning session.

Colors Set for Homecoming Dance Decorations

Decorations head C Kurt Smolen announced the Homecoming dance theme will use blue and gold. A blue curtain backdrop will feature a papier mache Alma Mater cartoon with blinking lights and the inscription 1948 Homecoming. Blue and gold streamers, balloons, a queen on the right, and a 12 piece George Conway orchestra will perform with ROTC escorts at intermission.

Race Close as Truman Edges Dewey in Nationwide Vote

As final results neared, President Harry S Truman led Republican rival Thomas E Dewey by a slim margin. Truman favored the West while Dewey led in the East with Dixiecrat strength in the South.

Marsh Scholarship Deadline Set for Nov 15

Applications for the Marsh scholarship must be completed and submitted to department heads by November 15. A scholarship committee meeting on November 17 will act on the applications. The award includes tuition and a monthly stipend.

Death With Honor Radio Play Aired On WAKR

The radio workshop presents Death with Honor by Clem Scerback on WAKR Saturday at 10 a.m. Cast includes Charles Kray as Pedro Ed Shelton as a Spanish general Ed Hallis as Thomas Jim McDonald as the adjutant and James Jeffries announcing Student engineer Richard Morrow. Duane Budner directs the production.

Homecoming Queen, Council Seats Chosen Today

Approximately 25 percent of SC members will vote for Homecoming queen and two student council members today. Candidates include Ruth Anne Gallagher Lois Musick Marilyn Taylor for queen and Fred Allan Mike Fuller Len Dockus and Jerry Ott for council. Voting runs 9 am to noon and 1 to 4 pm with five tables alphabetically organized. Election changes teased by Irv Wheatley aim to simplify future registrations.

Former Prague mayor Dr. Peter Zenkl told a Moulton hall audience that Czechoslovakia’s fate mirrors democracy’s fate elsewhere and urged urgent aid to Communist-infiltrated nations. He faulted American press for neglecting Communist exposure and urged books like Speaking Frankly to spread awareness.
