The 1941 Chestnut Burr yearbook will be available tomorrow morning in Kent hall after editor Bill Schraegle announced the book. It features maroon and black ink, 244 pages, and 1667 photographs, far above last year's 1080, with a back directory showing photo locations. Students must present activity tickets to obtain copies.
Freshman Recognition Program may be disrupted as about 80 medals intended for Freshman President Ray Gallagher are delayed due to metal shortages caused by defense orders. Gallagher received notice yesterday that medals may not arrive until days after the ceremonies.
Gladys Mumaw a senior music student will present a piano recital tonight at 8 o'clock in room 312 Merrill hall. The recital is open to University students and townspeople. She studies with Mrs Julia Alexopoulos and will perform works by Beethoven Schumann De Busey Gadowsky and Chopin in three parts.
Official figures from the registrar list 255 students eligible for graduation on June 9, 1941. The College of Education tops with 134 in secondary, 28 in elementary, and four in kindergarten. Forty-three earn B S degrees in business administration and three in secretarial science. Liberal Arts will graduate 22 B A and 21 B S students, totaling 43.
The Fraternity All-Stars will practice tonight at Rockwell field at 4 p m announced by Manager Bill Starn. They may play an Independent team and have a game scheduled for Sunday afternoon with the Ravenna Merchants.
Kent State will join the University of Akron Hiram College and Mount Union College to exchange reference materials. A catalog system will let students see other libraries holdings and request books mailed to Rockwell library. Each library will cover a field of knowledge with shared duties to reduce duplication and expand cultural access.
Kent State university reports the recent wind storm damaged about 75 trees on campus. superintendent Larry Wooddell says repairs are uncertain but replacing a downed oak near the new amphitheater could reach 400 dollars. Fire damage in the ceramics room of the heating plant is negligible.
Rockwell library will stay open on Memorial Day but will not loan books the day before. Seniors must clear their library records to obtain diplomas on commencement day, according to library attendants.
Members of the University YMCA plan their final gathering of the year at 6 45 near the campus toboggan slide. The meeting will cover year end plans and upcoming activities.
Track Captain Secret Joe Begala announced yesterday that the track captain for next year had been elected but refused to reveal his identity.
University publications committee will interview applicants at 4 p m today in the Kent Stater office for editor and business manager posts on the Kent Stater Chestnut Burr and Duchess. Final decisions announced at a 7 30 p m banquet at the Mayflower hotel with Prof William Taylor presiding.
Kent State Rowboat Regatta schedules a 10 entry field with KMK’s not yet registered by 5 p.m. deadline. Men’s race adds Delta Phi Sigma Phi Beta Phi and Varsity K club, while Celts and Engleman hall crews prepare with Werner Dickson Eli Beery LaRue Fink and Joy Stover named to row.
John Steiner class treasurer urges all seniors to pay dues today to participate in senior week activities. Dues will be collected this afternoon at the entrance to Villa gym.
Invitations to the Senior women's banquet must be returned to Margot Mueller by Thursday May 30 to confirm reservations.
Paul Brimberry, 26, former Akron Garfield high school student and private pilot, left the United States to join the Royal Canadian Air Force. He traveled to Windsor for enlistment and then to Yarmouth Nova Scotia for training in his plan to remove Adolf Hitler’s mustache, citing his professor William Taylor as a target of his souvenir hunt. Taylor, described as his “worst student,” notes the RCAF’s mix of about half American recruits, with Texans predominating. Brimberry’s training address remains Royal Canadian Air Force Dominion of Canada.
