The student council rejected the Blue Key Cardinal Key plan for a freshman advisory board. It adopted a rules enforcement approach from the book for nine weeks then defeated the plan. Bob Cook led the opposition in an 11 to 3 defeat with Joe Blair and Don Sinn opposing. The new committee will enforce book rules on traditions but not run freshman elections.
Mrs Elizabeth Garl a University maintenance employee injured in an auto collision near College and DePuyster streets was reported in fair condition at Memorial hospital Ravenna. She was unconscious when brought to the hospital. Jack Howard of Kent was the driver of the other car involved in the crash. Mrs Garl has worked for the University seven years.
David a senior in the College of Business Administration will receive the Manchester manhood cup at the Senior Men's Union banquet at Twin Lakes Country Club. He outdistanced all entrants in the Union contests to win the award named for Raymond E. Manchester. Principal speaker will be Ray Hromco and Dr K C Leebrick will address the group. Reservations end at noon today.
Campus Night crowned Dana Johnson of Gamma Sigma Phi Miss May queen and their sorority won the first place parade cup with the Miss Liberty float. The varsity float placed second while Phi Beta Phi received second for its propaganda machine. Doris Stanton, an Independent, named fourth queen.
Students planning to enroll in summer school must obtain and fill trial blanks today, Registrar E. C. Stopher announced. Completed forms must be turned in to the registrar by 5 p m tomorrow.
Dr. John E. McGilvrey, president emeritus of Ohio State, tells the Men's Faculty club that Founders Day predates May 19 1910. He notes the 1834 Ohio Legislature emissary to Germany and that Kent’s campus helped establish the northeastern Ohio normal school.
Health and Physical Education club sells tickets in front of Wills gym for today’s picnic at 4 30 p m. Don Sinn says transportation provided. those with cars should bring them. Picnickers meet in the gym and depart at 4 15 from near the University heating plant. Bertha Heichel plans refreshments and Jimmy Alogdelis organizes the recreation program.
Richard M Harper 22 year old senior is killed when his car slips from a jack in his Akron garage. He earned entry to Kent after Akron University and planned a BS in business administration. Harper known as Rick, Phi Beta Phi member, Commerce club participant, son of C Neslie Harper and sibling Thomas. The faculty recommends posthumous degree to Kent trustees.
