Kent Stater Rowboat Regatta Draws Forty Three Crews

The Kent Stater fourth annual Rowboat Regatta features 43 entrants with Phi Beta Phi and others fielding crews. Regatta director Earl Vacaria notes remaining undecided Duchess crew gender and confirms swimming tests for all contestants led by Judy Marshall at 3 PM daily at the University pool.

Apple Cinches Manhood Cup At Manchester Campus

Roy Apple, sophomore, won the Manchester Manhood cup for versatility on campus. He topped the point score with 89 as three contests remain in the Men's Union calendar. Apple also won the art work division while Dick Kerckhoff will receive the writing division cup. Dean Banchester praised Apple as worthy of the honor.

Wills Gym To Host Men's Union Carnival Plans

Final plans for the Men's Union Campus Carnival at Wills Gym on May 22 call for three zones including social dancing in the center and carnival booths at one end. Dancing Under Stars features penny box donations with proceeds supporting the penny drive and participating organizations. Barn dancing on the tennis courts accompanies a king and queen jitterbug contest and a penny box trophy for the top fundraiser.

Freshman and Sophomore Men Exempted From Class for Navy Talk

Freshman and sophomore men will be excused from classes tomorrow at 11 to hear Lt Wisner, director of the naval reserve V-1 program in the Midwest, discuss opportunities to stay in college and become a commissioned officer. He will speak in room 317 McGilvrey hall and explain program changes. Attendance slips will be issued as excuses. Kent State recently gained navy approval to offer V-1 reserve enlistment to freshmen and sophomores, with eligible high school graduates aged 17 to 19 included. Students seeking info should see Adrian Van Wyen in room 303 Merrill hall.

Water Sample Studied At State Lab Over University Illnesses

University physician Dr. Elizabeth A Leggett reports 22 students affected by a form of intestinal flu linked to cafeteria services. Water samples sent to Columbus state lab to determine chemical cause while outbreaks occurred in Kent Akron Youngstown and Cuyahoga Falls.

Dr Baum To Speak At All University Honor Assembly

Dr Maurice Baum head of philosophy will address "The Scholar Scholarship and the War" at the all University honor assembly Tuesday May 19 at 11 am in the auditorium. Phi Beta Kappa professors will honor outstanding scholastic students.

Senior Week Plans For Commencement Activities

Plans for commencement exercises and senior week were announced. The schedule includes a Wednesday June 3 rehearsal at 4 p m in the University auditorium and a Sunday June 7 baccalaureate service at 3 15 p m with Reverend Bernard C Clausen under the theme The Point of No Return. A 4 30 p m reception for graduates follows at the Leebricks home.
