The newly elected student council finalized Campus night plans with May queen crowning at 6 p.m. Friday, a 7 p.m. parade through town ending at the atrium, and an intermission dance with Jimmie Jones and Kay Maloney announced as most popular man and woman.
The YMCA and YWCA university chapters host a joint campfire gathering at 7 p m in the University woods near the toboggan slide. The program features group games singing and refreshments with a promise of a cure for spring fever.
Gov John W Bricker will deliver the commencement address at the 1941 graduation exercises in Wills gymnasium on June 9 to serve students alumni and citizens of Kent. Dr H E Stelson chair of the committee says reservations must be made by May 25 to ensure gymnasium arrangements. If not enough reservations are received the exercises will be held in the University auditorium as usual.
John M. Storm associate editor of the Cleveland News will speak at a Chi Pi sponsored professional dinner at the Robinhood at 6 p m. He will then address journalism students in Kent hall room 219 at 8 p m.
Ten coeds compete for Campus May Queen as judges view 10 nervous candidates in Moulton hall music room. Doris Stanton leads with number one on light blue organza. Julia Salem follows with two in midnight blue taffeta, a petite Ashtabula sophomore tapping to new glory. Beatrice Wright and Eileen Arnold, Beighman hall, vary in teal net and white chiffon as seniors and juniors await outcome.
Three robin eggs hatched into triplet robins under the supervision of Dr. Kenneth R. Pringle in room 210 Merrill hall. The mother and babies are reported to be doing well.
Four off campus students Jacquelyn Richner Margaret Wedding Raymond Gallagher and Richard McGinnis were named to the Student Advisory committee to aid in off campus housing planning The panel will advise on the next year’s Off Campus handbook and address student housing concerns Miss Frances Maisch director of residences noted a student led approach complements the existing house mother group and aims to improve problem solving through direct student consultation Existing committee members Mrs G J Altmann Mrs H H Claypoole Mrs L F Gombert Mrs P E Spatch and Mrs I A Oviatt will continue in advisory roles.
University women are offered several openings for summer camp work. Positions are both volunteer and paid. Miss Jeanne Parrish assistant dean of women announced yesterday. Application blanks may be procured at the dean of women's office.
Varsity K club members will discuss K Day assembly plans at Merrill Hall room 109 on Thursday. Ed Boyle was elected president with Hal Martin as vice president Chet Bania as treasurer and Walt Porowski as sergeant at arms at the recent re organized club meeting.
Commerce club members intend to visit the railroad yards at Marion Ohio. The group will meet in Merrill Hall tonight with Harold Weil as president. Those wishing to join must sign by 4 p.m. today.
Forty eight freshmen from departments across the University receive awards for outstanding work over the past year. Winners include Robert McNeese and Elma Smobergsted for scholarship scores of 4.00 and 3.94. Other honors cover journalism music art dramatics and athletics. Miss Alicea Webb dies during an appendicitis operation at Austinburg hospital.
A 30 minute WTAM round table Sunday at 11:30 a.m. features three KSU faculty members discussing the Lindberg-Wheeler school of thought and defending the Western Hemisphere. Participants are Constantine J. Alexopoulos, C. C. Kochenderfer, and Harold J. Hoflich.
Tests for students wishing to remove incomplete grades in freshman English will be given on May 19 or 20. Prof. E C Satterfield, head of the English department, oversees the process.
Prof William Taylor announces a grooming system for Chestnut Burr editors and business managers. Applications for sophomore and junior positions will be received this week. Six juniors and eight sophomores will be chosen to train for head roles.
