Fifty-One Women Pledged to WAA During Candlelight Initiation

Fifty-one new members were initiated into the Women's Athletic Association last night with candlelight services led by vice-president Viola Smith in Betty Ferguson’s absence. Claire Jane Wagstaff oversaw arrangements as candidates with 50 or more WAA points were introduced to Mrs. Marie Apple and the officers, recited the oath, and became voting members.

Concentration on Individual Study Raised in University Forum

The university forum urged focusing on individual study rather than racial differences to guide action against prejudice. Independents of Kent State Form Third Party on Campus

A group of independents at Kent State University announce the formation of a third political party to seek representation in student government. They have scheduled a meeting for Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the university auditorium and urge all non affiliated students to attend and participate in selecting candidates and ideas for spring campaigns.

Don Cossacks to Perform for Finnish Relief Fund

The Don Cossack male chorus directed by Serge Jaroff appears Monday at 8 15 p m in the university auditorium for the Finnish relief fund. This marks their third university appearance with liturgical Russian church music and Slavic folk songs. Ticket sales are expected to rise as capacity crowds have filled past shows. Students are urged to buy early and blocks of tickets have been requested by several high school music departments.

University women’s organization Cardinal Key will judge the 1940 May Queen a month ahead. Florence Grosvenor announces the competition and a deadline of April 5 for application blanks and an eight by ten photo.

The STATER contest ends today at 5 p m. Students may submit leads for a chance to win a pair of Schine's Kent theatre passes. Entries must be turned in at the STATER office by the 5 p m. deadline.

Law students urged to observe headlight law

Mayor Alf Lovell announced action against students who park on main streets after dark without headlights. State law requires two headlights and a tail light from half an hour after sundown to half an hour before sunrise.

Merrick M Hill resigns as university supervisor of student publications for health reasons and will leave for San Antonio Texas on April 1. George Betts will succeed him as publicity director with Stewart Fern taking Betts position. Professor William Taylor lauds Hill's hard work and wishes him well in future endeavors.
