Over 1000 patch tests are being given to freshmen and sophomores to evaluate a new bandage like method for detecting tuberculosis. Dr. A O DeWeese notes teachers could apply the test in public schools if successful. The patch turns red if infected, with X rays to follow, while the traditional hypodermic test is also used on the left arm for comparison.
University of Nebraska arts and sciences dean Dr. Charles Henry Oldfather will speak at 10 AM in the University auditorium on This Business of Education. Born in Persia and educated at Hanover and Wisconsin, he taught ancient history at the university in 1926 and earlier at Wabash. He also addresses the Liberal Arts faculty at 4 PM in the Training school auditorium.
Women students registered at the university may apply for Engleman Hall room assignments. Seniors apply April 2, 8:30–11:30 a.m. and 1:30–3 p.m.. juniors Wednesday. sophomores Thursday from 7:30 a.m. First in line draw first. $5 reservatory fee required with application.
All organizations interested in selling tickets for Pop Night on April 10 are urged to obtain their tickets today in the atrium from the Off Campus Women's Club.
The independents announce a 10 o'clock assembly in the university auditorium for unaffiliated students to form a new party and discuss candidate selection. Pres K C Leebrick will speak, James Rybak will outline the party history, and Betty Crampton will explain the candidate-selection method.
A petition at Kent State and Canton center aims to extend service from Hartville to Kent benefiting over 300 students. The proposal would create a direct Kent Canton line enabling Canton campus students to attend Kent and Kent students to commute easily. Route 43 towns Cairo Suffield Brimfield Massillon Robertsville East Sparta Reedurban East Canton are included. Bob Abbott, university representative, will collect interested student replies.
Bob Seese was unanimously elected president of the student council for next year at the diner meeting in the Robin Hood. Bob Cook was chosen vice president and Kay Maloney named secretary treasurer. Seese has chaired the elections committee this year and will succeed Gordon Hostettler as senior class president. Other elections to select next year’s council members were held.
Between 2000 and 3000 high school music students from 12 counties will compete April 5 and 6 at the third annual festival. Ninety six organizations enter bands orchestras and choruses under Ohio Music Education association authority. Band and orchestra contests run on the campus and at Roosevelt high school for choruses with judges from Miami Ohio State University Bowling Green and others.
Myron B. Smith of the Library of Congress will visit Kent State University April 15 to 18 to present an exhibition on Near Eastern culture. He will display Eastern textiles costumes and provide examples of book binding and calligraphy for students faculty and townspeople.
Connie Waldo fresh man representative Dorothy Hostettler sophomore and Vincent McDevitt junior won the elections. They will serve with other members after a spring student vote. A 50 cent per semester class dues addition was approved. Plans for a big name band to visit campus were discussed. Several members are set to receive year of service awards including Paul Hazen Virginia Frederick Howard Besseger Fred Prasse Natal ie Floersheimer Louie Cardinal Bob Cook Wanda Griffith Kay Maloney Vince McDevitt Helen Rothermund Ed Zink Don Scullion Leland Zahniser.
Freshmen are urged to attend a 4 pm meeting in the Training School auditorium. The agenda includes announcements on the upcoming Freshman Weekend and other important business.
