The seventh annual Penny Carnival on April 2 in Kent Hall gym aims to net about $1000 for the Stadium fund. Entries due March 18 noon. Blue and Cardinal Key honor societies sponsor. exhibits in Kent Hall first floor gym with trophies for top groups and independent entrants.
Dean White projects surge in future enrollments from rising birth rates and wartime effects. He estimates 1965 high school cohorts and a college enrollment of 3,000,000 with 25 percent from the 18 to 21 age group, needing about 160,000 more instructors.
Petitions for Most Popular Man and Most Popular Woman are due in the Student Council office Friday March 19 between 11 a.m. and 12 p.m. Representatives meet at 3 p.m. the same day in the Council office for ballot position drawings and poster space allocation.
The Council of Presidents will meet Tuesday at 4 p.m. in 214K to set up a definite program for the proper introduction of the fall freshman to the university. Curt Sarff serves as chairman.
A damaged pencil drawing by Gladys Rockmore Davis in a Midtown galleries exhibit will be bought by the university for 75 dollars using general activity funds. The department had not planned to purchase any prints, and the vandalism raises calls for stricter gallery policing.
Twelve sacred songs from the a cappella choir will be heard in Thursday morning’s Easter observance. The Rev. Laten Carter will open with a brief invocation at 11 a.m. in the auditorium, and the program will last about 30 minutes with works by Tallis Byrd Mouton Bach Kalinnikoff Tschesnokoff Pantchenko and the Jacob Handel Alleluia for triple chorus plus modern sacred pieces.
Robert J. Casey of Youngstown becomes editor in chief of the Kent Stater for spring quarter 1948. Angeline Scourcos will be Stater business manager and David Kaplan will head the 1948 Chestnut Burr business staff. No Burr editor named. Announcements came at the Mayflower hotel banquet in Akron.
Neal Nelson nailed a long shot in the final 15 seconds as the university intramural All-Stars topped the Cleveland Browns 51 49. Jerry Edwards led with 17 points, while Cliff Lewis had 19 for Cleveland. Wade Milford led Delta Phi Sigma to a 49 26 win over Hiram All Stars with 13 points.
The Southernaires Quartet will perform Classics and folk songs Thursday at 8 15 pm in the auditorium. Admission is free. Members are Ray Yeats lyric tenor Lowell Peters second tenor Jay S Toney baritone and William Edmonson bass. They rose to fame 17 years ago after their NBC debut.
A transformer burned out in the basement of Kent Hall around 8 15 yesterday morning plunging the building into darkness. Larry Woodell OSU maintenance supervisor said Ohio Edison workers replaced the transformer and service was restored late yesterday evening. Woodell blamed the breakdown on defective wiring in the transformer.
Four local leaders Don Smith Betty Hoy President George Bowman and Athletic Director Trevor Rees announce an April 9 stadium fund dance organized by Alpha Phi Beta to raise money for the school project.
