Three days of ticket sales remain as Kent State plans the Chestnut Burr dance Friday at East Market Gardens Akron off campus. Charlie Spivak will perform with Ray Moran promoting his hits and Gershwin standards. advance tickets are 125 cents, 150 at the door.
Students planning to attend the spring reading clinic may register at the clinic in the southwest corner of Rockwell library on any weekday until March 17. Mildred L. Nicholson, head of the clinic, says reading tests are available at registration but not mandatory.
Gaylen W. Diez was admitted recently. Mary Jane Mueller and Ruth Ann Riggs were admitted and discharged.
Students and faculty will have first seating for David E. Lilienthal’s talk on Atomic Energy for Peace at 1 p.m. Friday. Overflow seating will be in 317 McGilvrey hall with broadcast, and a luncheon for Lilienthal and his wife is planned in the Kent State union.
Students compete in a three-t trophy beard contest in the auditorium at 3 p m judged on length uniqueness and appearance. Entertainment includes Pat Whitmer Canton singer and Phi Gamma Theta barbershop quartet with Al Newman hosting and Tony Emanuel as fifth judge amid alumni and faculty judges. Proceeds go to the March of Dimes.
Tom Welsh president of the Men’s union told the student council the group is always open for inspection by interested students. The council approved the union’s minutes and discussed funds allocations amid prior funding doubts. Petitions for spring elections were announced with April 20 tentative date. 24 posts will be filled. John Kapioltas named Blue and Gold party representative to the elections committee.
Radio Workshop presents a skit on the lead up to the Boston Tea Party to air Friday at 4 15 p m on WKSU and Saturday at 11 a m on WAKR Akron The cast includes Samuel Adams Bob Smith Marion Courtney Jayne Rubins King George Lord North Josiah Quincy and others under John Weiser's direction
The freshman class dance, The Sweater Swagger, will be in the Kent State union on Saturday March 11 from 7 30 to 11 30 p m Admission is 35 cents per person and 50 cents per couple Only freshmen and their guests may attend Music will be provided by records Tickets go on sale today from any committee member Chaperones include Mr and Mrs Paul C Kitchin Jr Mr and Mrs Richard Paskert and Mr and Mrs Paul Baus Paskert is the freshman class advisor
The annual Men's union president banquet will be held at 6 p.m. tonight at the Robin Hood. About 60 campus organization presidents are expected to attend to promote cooperation. Guests include George A. Bowman, Raymond E. Manchester, and Kent Mayor Frank J. Dangler Jr. Carl Nagle leads the committee.
