University and high school students attend tomorrow's National Forensic League meeting. Tickets are on sale today for 25 cents at a table between Kent Hall and the Atrium per Director Earle E Curtis.
Free program features Newman as master of ceremonies for beard judging with Phi Gamma Theta Barbershop quartet and Pat Whitmer slated to perform novelty acts. Entrants paid ten cents to register. more than $30 collected will go to the March of Dimes drive.
The Kent Stater editor and business manager for next quarter will be chosen at a Student-Faculty Publications Policy committee meeting in the School of Journalism office 114M at 4 p.m. Wednesday March 8. Applicants may obtain forms from Jean Getz and must return them by noon Monday March 6. Committee members include Norma Van Benthuysen Jim Smith Roger Baele Kenneth Webb Dr Chester E Satterfield Prof John B Nicholson Jr Carleton J Smyth and Prof William Taylor.
Sophomore class hosts the Twirl at Kent State union from 9 p.m. to midnight with Bill Andrie orchestra and 12:30 a.m. permits for women. Junior class presents Hard Times at Chestnut Inn Garrettsville from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. with 2:30 a.m. permits for women. Proceeds go to the Heart Fund and the Junior-Senior prom. Admission to Twirl undecided. weight-based admission table for male guests. Hard Times priced 50 cents unless junior dues paid, free for dues paid. Chestnut Inn is six miles north of Ravenna on Route 88.
First aid instruction for those seeking instructors' licenses starts Tuesday March 7 from 7 to 10 p.m. in 301 McG. The weekly sessions will run each Tuesday through mid May when the Red Cross examiner arrives to conduct the exams.
Canton voters defeated plans for a municipally supported university ending Kent State University Canton’s branch after next term. High land tax fears and Timken foundation backing shaped opposition, despite American Council on Education support and Timken land offering for education.
An all university affair titled Hard Times runs tonight from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Chestnut Inn in Garrettsville six miles north of Ravenna on route 83. Juniors who paid class dues gain free admission. others pay 50 cents at Merrill Hall entrance.
