Dale Rowe, Traffic Director, notes several students have not registered their cars with the university traffic department. Regulations require annual registration for student-owned vehicles, with a $1 late fee for those filed through Columbus. All drivers entering Kent should register immediately.
Dewey F. Barich head of Kansas State University industrial arts department was chosen as a judge for the National Industrial Arts Fair in Chicago at the Museum of Science and Industry from June 23 to 25. He will judge all metal and mechanical drawing entries among five selected judges.
Associate professor Mona Fletcher announces her review of Legislative Procedure in Kansas by F. H. Guild and C. F. Snider will appear in the June issue of The American Political Science Review.
The Cleveland Summer orchestra under Dr Rudolph Ringwall plays at Wills gym on Thursday June 26 at 8 15 p m. A warm weather pop concert features Wagner Debussy Bach Strauss Sibelius and others. Free to students faculty and friends.
For the first time since summer 1945 Kent State University lists about 100 off campus vacancies via Mrs. Rhema A Fair Student Resident Director. Most openings are for men and summer only with some spaces for both summer and fall. A few vacancies exist for married couples but only in summer. Lowry Hall is closed all summer while Terrace Lodge, the men’s temporary dorms, have a few beds.
Mrs. Fair stated that the student resident office has received numerous room requests from both men and women for the fall quarter. They have been unable to grant all requests to date.
The university flying club will meet June 25 at 4 p.m. in 109M to discuss plans for a national chapter. John Lyons, liberal arts sophomore, represented the university at the National Intercollegiate Flying Club meet in Detroit last month.
The Inter-fraternity council will meet Wednesday at 4 10 p m in room 219K to discuss campus affairs and upcoming events.
Enrollment for the summer session hit 3026, the highest ever, with about 2000 veterans in the first session which ends July 25. Nursing students live in Moulton hall and take pre professional courses. Last year 2343 enrolled, 1500 veterans. Final counts may vary due to late enrollments. The two sessions run to July 25 and August 29, the latter also commencement day.
Three hundred fifty nine College of Business Administration students earned honors in the spring quarter with 3.0 or better. Sixteen posted 4.0 averages, 89 carried 3.5 to 4.0, and 254 achieved 3.0 to 3.5. Straight A students include Robert H. Broski and others named.
Librarian John B. Nicholson Jr announces a new library system requiring a borrower’s card for all students to access books. Cards are non interchangeable. lost cards are duplicated for 25 cents the first time and at double the fee on subsequent requests. Library hours are Monday to Friday 7:45 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Professor Caro Carapetyan invites all students to join a new University Summer choir rehearsing daily from 12 40 to 1 40 in Merrill 309. Training and musical experience are offered with a half hour credit. A Bach concert is set for July 21 in the auditorium. contact the music office 315 Merrill to join.
A meeting for August graduates will be held at 4 p.m. in 219K today.
Over 100 northeastern Ohio school custodians and maintenance workers enrolled in Kent State University's third annual five day clinic for non teaching staff. R. E. Tilt of Western Reserve Academy directs the program with Fren Musselman overseeing. Sessions cover roof and masonry repair, outside maintenance, wall washing, floor scrubbing, waxing, and power motor care with guest speakers and exhibits from institutions and industry.
Carleton J. Smyth former director of publicity at Duquesne University and ex journalist with the Washington Times Herald has accepted a position as assistant professor of journalism at Kent. He graduates from Columbia University and was a former Pulitzer school of journalism student and will teach radio news writing and direct student publications.
