E C Stopher registrar reports 731 students enrolled for the first summer quarter of 1945, up from 672 in 1944. Over 880 registered in fall 1945, 711 in winter, with about 25 percent regular students and the rest teachers and part-time workers. About fifty World War I veterans are included, with 15 rehabilitation and four G I veterans noted earlier.
Dr. Donald Anthony head of Kent State business administration and Seventh War Loan chairman announced $64,076.70 in war bonds sold, exceeding Kent's $28,000 quota. Independent Students Association aided by selling bonds and stamps during Campus Night parade featuring a Varga Girl float.
Michael Radock director of journalism and publicity at Westminster college will become assistant professor in charge of the Kent State university School of Journalism news bureau. He will teach freshmen and sophomores and supervise the bureau arriving for autumn 1945. He holds a Westminster bachelor's and a Northwestern master of science in journalism. Previously he was with the Fayette Journal and the Charleroi Daily Mail and wrote for several papers. Both he and Mrs. Radock are Pennsylvania natives.
The KSU cafeteria is undergoing long overdue repairs and redecoration. In the west dining hall a full repaint is planned and the east dining hall will also be painted. Plastering repairs are done and the kitchen has a new paint coat. The salad room opens in the kitchen and new flooring will be installed soon.
The Independent student association will meet Monday June 25 in 219 Kent Hall. Claude Miller president announced plans for a hayride and dinner next week and urged all non Greeks to attend.
The High School Institute in Speech opens June 25 with 28 juniors from Cleveland Dayton Zanesville and other Ohio cities for four weeks of intensive study. They will run their own classes audit college courses and participate in the university theatre summer play on July 20 in the auditorium. Twenty four girls will reside in Lowery Hall during the program.
The K Vets veterans club will host a weekly social dance in Will s gymnasium from 8 30 to 10 30 p m each Wednesday. Clarence Tonka president announced yesterday.
Editor Ted Phillips announces the Kent Stater will publish weekly Fridays in the first summer quarter. Students should take one copy from hall boxes. Signed letters to the editor are encouraged, with optional anonymity for names. The paper is student driven and welcomes new staff involvement at the Journalism office.
Dean Arden Allyn, Dr. Lester Munzenmayer, and Dr. Donald Anthony joined a Northeastern Ohio Personnel organization meeting on Friday June 15. Three former Kent State graduates were present. August Peterka is personnel director at White Sewing Machine in Cleveland. Miss Jane Snyder holds the same post at Sears West Side. Mrs. Julia Begela of Kent directs Radiart Corporation personnel.
Navy Lt Dewey F Barich returns to Kent State University after two years of combat against Japan to serve as co ordinator of veterans affairs and assist student veterans and campus programs.
Co ordinator Lieutenant Barich returns as professor and head of industrial arts at Kent State University and now guides 35 faculty in resuming duties with veterans under the G I Bill. He will advise service members and oversee contacts with the veterans administration. Barich stresses veterans need help and calls for contributions to GI and university programs.
Ohio universities including Kent State Ohio State Bowling Green Miami would be early adopters of frequency modulation broadcasting under a state education plan. A central Columbus station and four corner stations would form an educational network with five programming centers.
