Maintenance Crew Begins Work On Buildings Campus
University maintenance employees accelerate outdoor and interior redecorating and repainting on campus using 2000 gallons of paint planned before year end. Director Larry Woodell notes most paint goes to classrooms and interior areas with substantial exterior use on windows and doors. A new light color scheme is planned for the University auditorium as part of the redecorating.

26 CPT Pilots Ready To Solo At Airports
Twenty six Kent State University men are preparing for solo flights at Akron and Mid-City airports in a pioneering national program to air condition American youth. Enrolled on army and navy reserve lists, they study meteorology navigation aerodynamics theory of flight mathematics chemical warfare military science and discipline and physical education. They receive room and board at Moulton hall paid by the government for an eight week course before advancing or transferring. An expanded aviation faculty aids the reserves with ground school taught by Andrew Paton and military science and chemical warfare by Frank C Hull. Regular faculty member Adrian Van Wylen directs the program.

Kent State Summer Session Enrollment Nears Last Year
Kent State's second summer session enrollment rose to 726 and may surpass last year's 739 total. Registrar E C Stopher credited the war and gas rationing for maintaining figures with the more serious lease on life. women totaled 483 and men 243, with Education leading at 532 enrollees and Business Administration up 75 percent.

Kent's Flying Dutchman Works Seven Days A Week
Adrian Van Wyen, a full blood Dutchman, serves as CPT consultant and director at Kent University. He works seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. with additional Saturday and Sunday airport schedule adjustments. He earns one dollar a year and reports region three schools to adapt curricula for CPT. He joined Kent in 1934 and earned his master’s degree here in 1938. His home is West Sayville, Long Island.

Barich Named Industrial Arts Department Head
Dewey F. Barich former supervisor of vocational training for defense workers in Michigan will head the University of Michigan industrial arts department this fall. He is known in Michigan education circles for his broad training in industrial arts and holds a master’s from the University of Michigan and a BS from Stout Institute. He also worked for four years at Oliver Iron Mining in Hibbing.
