After two years of inactivity the veteran cheerleader group reorganized to lead cheers at the varsity basketball game between Liberal Arts and opponents. Teammates Vi Baker and Lou Smart assist as two senior members help rally the crowd.
John Williamson new business manager announces a 4 p m meeting for University men and women to join the Stater business staff. Open positions include circulation manager advertising manager and exchange editor. Elizabeth Piotter incoming editor says editorial staff meets Wednesday at 4 in the Stater office. all returning and new writers must attend.
Individual collections reach 49 dollars with 34 names on the honor roll as Alpha Omega sorority tops the drive with 67 dollars since October. Theta Sigma Upsilon is second at 61.96 dollars while Theta Sigs prepare another collection week and Beta Gamma sorority will carry boxes next week.
The Student Government constitution will be presented to students for approval at an election Thursday Feb 15. The same election will choose the 1945 Miss Kent State and fill a junior class representative spot on the Council after Norma Hakundy withdrew. Petitions due by 4 p m Feb 6. Peggy Curry presided the quarterly meeting in place of the canceled assembly with Captain James F Johnson.
The Office of War Activities will meet tomorrow at 4 PM in room 204 Merrill Hall. Barbara Mc Dowell named temporary chairman and said the war chest drive will continue. a new permanent chairperson is to be chosen after Norma Hakundy withdraws from the University.
KSRW Handbooks will be distributed to Radio Workshop members tonight at 7 p.m. Assistant director Harry Daniels urges all interested in radio work to attend as a script will be cast.
The winter University theater production Morning's at Seven, directed by E Turner Stump, will be performed Thursday at 8:15 p m in the auditorium. The play features two neighboring Midwestern houses and the lives of their elderly residents with a light amusing tone. Homer, played by Oliver Ocasek, is the 40 year old fiancé of Myrtle, played by Lydia Mihok, who have been engaged for 12 years and marry amid a central crisis.
University officials and local coal supply representatives state there is no coal shortage on campus. Students express concern over deliveries and access while administrators confirm steady distribution and ongoing monitoring by the logistics office.
The right hand house features Mary Haines Dave Ryan and Ocasek with Doris Steuart Ed Suvanto and Viola Cian in the left house Arlene Riggle and Ted Baskin fill the remainder Mistress of the house is Ginny Goldie master of lights Herb Wands. Opal Wigner Buffo heads make up assisted by Edith Reiser. The stage crew includes Miss Haines Clarence Tonka Miss Reiser and Lee Shenafiel with Joan Halpin on costumes Pat Spring er handles properties Harry Daniels curtain and Miss Shena fiel publicity.
Seven scholarships were awarded to University students at the Board of Trustees meeting last Saturday. Recipients include Marilyn Benton Barbara Green and Anna McQueen with general and correspondence course awards. Art scholarships go to Angeline Zima Betty Pratt, while Madge Kime and Marion Cole receive music scholarships. Jeanne F. Claypoole is approved as acting dietician. Iris Haverstock Frank Corp and Margaret Rodgers named instructors at Canton Center Institute. Dr C C Kochenderfer shifts to transportation and foreign trade. Grace Bosma named secretary to Dr A O DeWeese. Dorothy Chalmers resigns. Evelyn Stein approved as secretary to the school of music.
University placements show June and September 1944 graduates in teaching, business, or military service. Of 156 education graduates, 119 in public school work, four in armed forces, seven in office work, with others in government maps, civil service, USO, and nursing. Liberal arts grads pursue military, journalism, dietetics, medical, or graduate study. business grads work in accounting or secretarial roles. Masters graduates all occupy education roles. The placement bureau notes wide ties with 90 industries to place applicants.
