The allocations committee approved $20 836 for the winter quarter by unanimous vote of the student council. The process was calm, blamed on the percentage system. Trevor Rees had $2 000 cut and warned the club will still incur a red balance.
Margaret Scullion, SSA director, says university students have contributed more than 50 dollars to KSU's March of Dimes drive. Pictured planning are Margaret Scullion, Betty Hess, and Bob White. The drive runs through Thursday with volunteers at the Merrill Hall booth from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily.
Six Portage county youth leaders will lead group discussions at Kent State University for the first Youth Institute on Saturday. Dr. Marion Van Campen announced appointments, with Dr. Frank D. Slutz as main speaker at 10:30 a.m. in the KSU auditorium.
Afternoon sectional meetings feature the Ravenna Dance band performing for tea dancing at conference close. Bands from Roosevelt Ravenna and Kent State high schools will each present short programs throughout the day.
Dr. George R. Bach of the University of Iowa reports child psychology studies in Newsweek dated January 6 showing twelve children reacting emotionally to fathers. He also contributed a paper on Physiological and Psychological Factors in Sex Behavior to the 1946 Annals of the New York Academy of Sciences.
Rev Kenneth H Gass founder of the Canterbury club and rector of Christ Episcopal church Kent announced Sunday he accepted a call to St Timothy’s Episcopal church at Massillon.
University students may contact Robert K. Pearce in his office between 9 and 10 a.m. Monday through Friday to enter the oratory contest. Wittenberg College hosts a men’s oratory contest on March 21 featuring interpretative reading and extemporaneous speaking. Ohio University sponsors a contest on February 21 for women interpretive readers and extemporaneous speakers.
Contractors began work on foundations for two two story barracks classrooms and offices, plus a single story union center at KSU. A 50 by 150 foot warehouse will stand near the university barn. Structures come from Camp Perry and Wright Field and will be completed by August 2. The Federal Works Agency funds removal and construction as KSU provides the site.
Dana Mae Burkhardt announced that only two aspirants for Miss Kent State University had filed petitions by the noon deadline. Evelyn Long and Marcie Armington are under review for possible signature duplication as the election set for Feb. 6 approaches.
Dickenson, a young American soprano, will perform a Monday evening program at 8 15 in the university auditorium. She is known for six years on the radio program American Album of Familiar Music and will sing an aria from Meyerbeers Dinorah along with works by Rossini Purcell Eckert and modern composers Stra vinsky De Falla and Aaron Copland. The university program is presented by the entertainment committee led by Dr Fren Musselman dean of the summer and extension schools.
The advisory committee of the Booster club will meet today to hear the financial statement and details on the recent membership drive. Plans for future Booster club functions will be discussed.
Grotesque and colorful costumes filled the first art club Masque ball after the war at Wills gym. Lois Pondy and Sid Montcastle won 25 dollars as Cat and the Fiddle, with others earning prizes for surreal Voodoo Priest, Gay Nineties outfits, and toy soldiers among the circus like decor and carnival mood.
Traffic department members propose parking on city streets northeast of campus, Crain Ave parallel to E Main St, and Summit St beside the varsity athletic field. A plan for a new 2,000 car lot is under discussion, likely away from buildings but in a convenient location.
About 150 residents of KSU temporary men's dormitories entered week four under more normal conditions. Heating updates and new lighting are finished, with study tables provided. Emil Berg says once weather allows, hard roads will be laid and the area landscaped.
Bob Casey announces a junior class meeting today at 4 pm in 317 McGilvrey Hall. The session will discuss plans for a dance and payment of class dues.
