GI Killed In Korea Leaves KSU Fund
John A. Florek of Edinboro Pennsylvania left a five thousand dollar National Service Life insurance policy to Kent State University. Florek a U M alumnus who earned a 1948 B S in business administration reenlisted after service and was killed in Korea in spring 1950. The gift was reported to the board of trustees by President Bowman who noted the unusual and surprising donation and trustees have not decided its use.

New Senior Class Officer To Be Chosen
A senior class vice president will be elected February 5 as part of a tentative slate approved by the Elections committee. Petitions for candidates for student council and Men's union are available from Jan McGarr at the Delta Gamma house and must be submitted January 25 between 11 a.m. and noon. Each petition requires specific signature counts based on 10 percent of the represented student body.

Try Outs Tonight For Snow White at Kent Hall

Deadline Set for Miss Kent State Contest
Miss Kent State pageant applications open at the dean of women's office with a January 28 deadline. Dismissals and Probations Told by Scholastic Standards Panel
The Faculty Scholastic Standards committee dismissed 99 students from the University for poor grades and placed 444 on academic probation at the close of the fall quarter. The panel also recommended removing 106 students from probation while 288 remain on probation for the winter quarter as records are reviewed with deans and the registrar after each term.
Rackham Named New Dean at Kent State Liberal Arts
Dr. Eric N. Rackham chosen as dean of the college of liberal arts at Kent State University succeeding John Reed Spicer who resigned to enter government service in Washington. Rackham, native of Nova Scotia,讲 has served University of Colorado since 1937 and as assistant dean since 1948. He is 40, married with a daughter and will arrive at the start of the spring quarter March 24.

Write-in rival fills vice president post after low score
The States editorial corrected that Mike Tangi was not the fall election write-in. A write-in candidate replaced Tangi’s first nominee after a drop out tied to a 1.9 presumption. Tangi’s fall quarter average is 1.88, yielding a 1.9 accumulative average.

Debaters Take Second Place at Ohio State Tourney
Kent State University’s men’s varsity debate team finished second among five schools at a Saturday tournament hosted by Ohio State University. The affirmative Rice and McManus beat Ohio State and Ohio Wesleyan, lost to Ohio University. the negative Banas and Pontius beat Ohio University and Ohio Wesleyan, lost to Hiram. Hiram won with a 5-1 record. The team sets sights on the Buckeye tournament at Kent State on February 9 and the Capital University Ohio tournament February 22–23, defending last year’s championship.

Plans Continue For Pork Barrel Co sponsorship
The men's union and the women's league agreed to continue co sponsor Pork Barrel, said Glenn Johnson, co chair. The Pan Hellenic council also endorsed the amateur night program and eight sorority representatives will proceed with earlier plans for Friday, Feb. 15. Nine independent groups have entered so far and more may contact Mary Lou Noel by mailbox or Engleman hall.

Trustees Approve $5 Raise for State Universities
Kent State University trustees approved increased quarterly fees for Ohio residents from 80 to 85 dollars and 105 for the academic year, with out of state tuition rising by 50 dollars a quarter. President Bowman blamed legislature cuts for the hikes affecting Bowling Green, Ohio State, Miami and Ohio universities.
