Funds from university students kick off a polio drive starting Monday to aid infant victims. Herbert Halverstadt appears in an iron lung as part of the campaign to support patients through the week.
Sigma Tau Gamma announces a campus election for the Most Unpopular Man with penny votes supporting a service publication drive. Nominees may be self suggested, and voting runs daily at Wills gym entry through Thursday at 4 p m with envelopes provided.
More than 50 University reservists in Dr. A C Poe's pre military conditioning class refused to follow a run around University drive. A sit down strike halted the outdoor drill as Poe returned to the gym. He will continue indoors next week. The reservists blamed zero weather, saying it was too cold to run.
Golden Flash fans may dance in Wills gym after the Bowling Green game tonight with recorded music from 9 30 to 11 p m. Admission requires activity tickets or student ID. Chaperones include Prof and Mrs Wagoner Prof and Mrs Altmann and Dr and Mrs Stetson.
Four university men travel to Cleveland for two rounds against Western Reserve and Case on the federal union for the United Nations. Bernie Harris and Scheffer Pierce affirm the motion while Don Wargowsky and Don Moore oppose. An invitational tournament is planned for early March with teams from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. James N. Holm directs forensics.
Six campus organizations have accepted invitations from the Office of War Activities to become members and will meet the committee at 4 p.m. Tuesday in room 204 Merrill Hall. All replies must be in today at the Student Council office. Peg Curry, acting chairman, said yesterday. Representatives already named include Marty Forsberg from the Women's League, Bill Clark from the Inter-fraternity Council, Jane Higgins from the Senior Class, Earl Vacaria from the Kent Stater, Jeanne Parrish from the Women's War Council, and Jack Collins from Blue Key.
The infantile paralysis March of Dimes drive begins Monday and runs through Saturday Jan 30 under Merle Wagoner University polio campaign chairman. Campus groups will canvass door to door aided by a University housing committee chair Wagoner also leads with Phyllis Pearson R E Manchester Mary Smallwood and Jeanne Parrish assisting. Most proceeds stay in Kent to aid local victims.
The Kappa Sigma Chi fraternity on campus will go inactive next week for the wartime period. With eight active members, the group gave up its house in June and cannot pledge new members. A faculty committee chaired by Dr. M. B. Palmer will manage the reserve fund and policy during inactivity.
Ruth Greenwood of the social committee announced top hop tickets go on sale Monday from 3 to 4 p.m. at the Wills gym entrance. Sales will continue Tuesday Wednesday and Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. with Thursday sales from 3 to 4 p.m.
Kent Stater seeks applicants for editor and business manager roles. Applications due by 5 p.m. Monday Feb 8. Current appointments end Feb 12 and the new appointees will serve until June.
All service personnel admitted free when Harold Nelson and his 15 piece orchestra perform at the Stage Door Canteen on Friday January 29. The event runs 9 p.m. to 12 midnight with decor theme honoring servicemen. tickets cost 1.00 through Tuesday at the school of speech and 1.50 at the door per couple. University Theatre membership cards admit one couple.
Kent State University students increase library attendance as the quarter system and accelerated 12 week terms push study. Both men and women use reading rooms to prepare for wartime positions, with attendance reflecting overall enrollment.
